Start by checking which Android version and Razr Ultra generation you have: the Android 17 features reported for Motorola phones are not confirmed for every model, region, carrier, or software build. Check your Android version and model before changing settings
The available Android 17 feature report describes Motorola phones broadly, rather than confirming these controls on every Razr Ultra variant. Motorola’s user guide identified here is for the Razr Ultra 2025 and covers Android 15-era material; its external-display help page is for the Razr Ultra 2026. Treat the Android 17 options below as features to look for, not guaranteed settings on your phone. Review Android 17 notification behavior first
Enable Live Updates selectively
Live Updates can keep ongoing information from supported apps in a continuing notification or status-bar item instead of sending multiple separate notifications. Enable them only for apps whose progress or status you want to track at a glance, and review each app’s notification controls. If an app does not offer useful ongoing information, there is little reason to give it this more prominent treatment.
Check summaries and notification grouping
The reported Android 17 changes include one-sentence summaries for lengthy message threads and machine-learning grouping of lower-priority notifications in a quiet area under Silent notifications. Review how your phone sorts and summarizes alerts before depending on the organization: a message or alert that matters to you may be less prominent than expected. Adjust the relevant app’s notification settings if you need a particular alert to stand out.

Set Enhanced HDR brightness for comfortable viewing
The Android 17 report describes Enhanced HDR brightness as a control for how much the display brightens during HDR viewing, including the option to reduce the effect or turn it off. Look for the control in display settings if it is available on your build, then choose the level that feels comfortable—especially when viewing HDR content in a dark room. The feature is reported for Motorola phones generally, not verified for every Razr Ultra.
Personalize the home screen and Quick Settings
Try stackable widgets if home-screen space is tight
Stackable widgets combine multiple widgets in one home-screen block, with a swipe to switch the displayed widget. If available, a stack could keep items such as a calendar, weather, battery, or media widget accessible while using less screen space. It is an optional layout choice, so use it only if swiping between widgets suits the way you check information.

Use themed icons for a coordinated look
The reported route is to long-press a blank area of the Home screen, then choose Home settings > Themed icons. Labels can vary by software build. Enable the option if you prefer icons that coordinate with the chosen theme; leave it off if you prefer the original app artwork.
Hide Quick Settings labels only if you know the icons
The reported label-hiding option applies when the Quick Settings style is set to Classic. Removing labels can make more room for tiles, but makes them harder to identify at a glance. Keep labels visible if you are still learning the icons or want easier discoverability; use the compact view only if the trade-off works for you.

Review the Razr Ultra’s foldable-specific controls
Motorola documents the following external-display controls for the Razr Ultra 2026. They may be useful on other generations, but the exact availability and menu path can differ. Blur the external lock screen if it reveals personal details
Motorola documents an option to blur the external lock-screen background. Consider enabling it if a personal photo or other detail is visible when the phone is closed and you would rather keep that information less exposed. This is a privacy choice: the clearer background may be more attractive, while a blur can make it less revealing.

Choose how apps behave when you fold the phone
App continuity controls which apps transition between the internal and external displays when you fold or open the device. Configure each supported app according to whether you want to continue using it on the cover display or return to the home screen. Continuity is convenient when you want to carry on with a task, while returning to Home gives you a more predictable fresh start.
Set what happens to calls when you open or close the phone
Motorola documents a Flip open to answer option and a separate choice for whether closing the phone disconnects or continues a call. Turn off flip-to-answer if opening the device could answer calls unintentionally. Choose the close-phone behavior that matches how you handle calls so folding the phone does not produce an unexpected hang-up or continued call.

Limit Sleep display gestures to the ones you use
Motorola lists separate Sleep display gestures: tap to show, lift to show, move to show, and approach to show. Enable only the gestures that make ambient information convenient to check. If you want fewer activations, disable the gestures you do not use or turn Sleep display off. Motorola says Desk display then becomes unavailable, so consider that trade-off before switching it off.
Keep pictures dimmed in Desk display modes
In Tent and Stand modes, Desk display can show a clock or a carousel of text and pictures. Motorola recommends keeping Dim pictures and album covers on in both modes to extend battery life and reduce the risk of image retention on the external display. The clock or carousel itself is optional personalization; the dimming recommendation is particularly relevant if you use those modes regularly.

Motorola’s Razr Ultra 2025 guide says Face Unlock is less secure than a pattern, PIN, or password. Treat face recognition as a convenience, not the strongest screen-lock choice; use a robust screen lock for the protection you need. The guide also documents Find My Device controls. For app access, review permissions through Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy controls > Permission manager, checking the labels on your Android build because paths can change.
