Download the free base game on a compatible device you already own; you do not need to buy a paid edition to start. Current official listings cover PS5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, iOS and Android. Paid passes, cosmetics, currency, subscriptions and separately listed packs are optional offers, not prerequisites for the free base download. Choose based on your device, storage, controls and account setup—not on a supposed required Deluxe or Standard tier.

| Xbox Series X|S | Players who own either current Xbox console | Publisher’s June 2026 estimates: 169.2 GB on Series X and 125.5 GB on Series S | Base game listed as free | Xbox Series X|S | Nov 2026 |

Are there paid editions you need to buy?
No. The game’s base download is free, and the named paid items are separate optional purchases. PlayStation calls its listing “Where Winds Meet (F2P)” and marks it Free; Steam marks its base game Free To Play; Xbox lists the base game as Free+. Those labels describe the base offer, not a requirement to select a paid tier.
Storefronts also list items such as battle passes, cosmetics, currency, a monthly fund or subscription, and a separate Steam DLC pack. These are add-ons, not evidence of a paid Standard or Deluxe edition required to access the game. Their contents, terms and availability can change, so inspect the offer on the storefront where you plan to play before spending. Don’t assume an item is permanent, transferable or worthwhile merely because its name includes “pack” or “edition.”

That is historical information, not a current preorder offer. Similarly, a publisher-announced Xbox Game Pass reward had a claim period ending July 23, 2026 (UTC+8); it should not be treated as a currently claimable bonus. The Xbox listing’s cloud-play subscription condition is separate from downloading the free base game.

Which platform should you choose?
Start with the compatible device you already own, then check storage and account requirements. There is no evidence here for a tested platform-performance ranking, so the choice is better made around convenience and fit than a claim that one version runs best.
- Choose PS5 if you own one and want a console download with DualSense features. PlayStation says an online connection is required. Its page also describes rendering and ray-tracing enhancements for PS5 Pro, without making that console a requirement.
- Choose Windows PC if your computer meets the requirements and you can free the necessary storage. Steam, Epic Games Store and the official website are documented PC routes. Steam recommends an SSD, but its storage figures differ from the figure on Epic’s listing; check the requirements for the specific route you will use.
- Choose Xbox Series X|S if you own one of those consoles. The Xbox listing includes Play Anywhere and separately lists cloud access. Downloading the base game is free; do not confuse that with the subscription condition for cloud play.
- Choose iOS or Android if you have a compatible mobile device and want portability. Publisher information establishes Android availability; the US App Store lists iPhone and iPad support with iOS/iPadOS 15.0 or later. Compatibility and availability can vary by device and region, so check the relevant store listing first.
Before choosing, consider the screen and controls you prefer, whether you have reliable online access, how much storage you can make available, which storefront or account you already use, and whether you might continue on another platform later. These are practical differences supported by the platform listings; they are not measured comparisons of frame rates or graphics.
How much storage do you need?
Make storage your first practical check, especially on PC or Xbox. The available figures are platform- and storefront-specific, and some are dated estimates rather than guarantees of the current installation size.
Windows PC
Steam’s listing gives a Windows minimum of 16 GB RAM and 130 GB of available space, and a recommended 32 GB RAM and 200 GB available space. Steam also recommends installing on an SSD. Epic’s listing instead states 100 GB of storage. These are the figures published by those storefronts, not a single universal download-size measurement. Check the requirements displayed by the route you intend to use and leave room for updates rather than treating the lowest listed number as a safe target.

If your PC is short on space, check the capacity and compatibility of your existing drives before buying storage. A compatible internal SSD may be an option, but the right drive depends on your PC’s available bay or slot and interface. The game’s requirements do not establish that a particular drive will fit your system.
Xbox Series X|S
The publisher’s Xbox launch FAQ in June 2026 gave file-size estimates of 169.2 GB for Series X and 125.5 GB for Series S, and recommended keeping 150–200 GB free for downloads and updates. Treat those as launch-period guidance, not an assurance of the exact space required today: patches can change installation needs. Check the console’s current storage display before beginning an install.
PS5 and mobile
The supplied platform information does not give a current PS5 or mobile installation-size figure. Check the device’s store or download screen for the current requirement instead of applying the PC or Xbox numbers to another platform. The same advice applies if you are deciding whether to delete other content: confirm the actual space required on the device you will use.
Will your progress carry over between platforms?
Cross-play and cross-progression cover Xbox, PC, PlayStation and mobile, but an existing character requires careful account linking. Before creating a character on a new platform, link the account you already use. The publisher warns that two accounts that already contain characters cannot simply be linked together.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
There is also a server-region limit. The publisher states: “Character data cannot be transferred across different server regions.” So cross-progression is not a promise that progress can move between every account combination or region. If you expect to switch devices, sort out the account link before creating a new character, and check that the destination platform and server region match the progress you want to continue.
The publisher’s Xbox FAQ also describes shared premium currency within a linked account. That detail does not mean every purchase or item transfers across platforms; check the current account and storefront terms for the specific purchase rather than assuming all paid content is shared.
When did Xbox become available?
Where Winds Meet launched globally on PC and PS5 in November 2025. Xbox is no longer excluded: the publisher dates the Xbox arrival to June 8, 2026, at 02:00 UTC+8, while the Xbox store gives June 7. Those dates refer to different time zones—the publisher’s time converts to June 7 at 18:00 UTC—rather than indicating that Xbox remains unavailable.

Do you need an accessory or subscription?
No extra controller or paid edition is identified as a requirement to start the free base game. On PS5, PlayStation specifically lists DualSense vibration and adaptive-trigger support, so an extra or replacement DualSense is a conditional accessory for someone who wants another controller—not a prerequisite. The publisher announced a game-styled Xbox Wireless Controller collaboration, but that announcement does not establish that the design is currently sold or bundled with the game.
Keep local downloads and cloud play separate when weighing subscriptions. The PlayStation page attaches Premium specifically to its PS5/PS Portal cloud-streaming feature. Xbox also lists separate cloud access with a subscription condition. Those cloud terms do not change the free price of the base download. The available information does not establish that a subscription is required for ordinary local installation, so check the relevant store’s current terms if you intend to stream rather than download.
There is no verified physical game edition in the cited listings. The offers described here are free digital base downloads and separate digital add-ons; do not buy a supposed boxed edition based solely on a storefront add-on name.

What should you do before downloading?
- Pick a device you already own. Check the current official listing for your platform and region; mobile availability and compatibility can depend on the specific device.
- Check the base-game label. Confirm that you are selecting the free base game, not a separately listed currency pack, pass, subscription or DLC.
- Confirm storage and system requirements. On PC, use the requirements for the storefront you choose; on Xbox, treat the publisher’s June 2026 sizes as dated estimates and check the console’s current figure.
- Plan your account before making a character. If you may continue an existing character on another platform, link the account before creating a new character there. Confirm the server region as well.
- Decide whether you need local play or cloud access. Review the platform’s cloud entitlement separately; a cloud subscription condition is not the price of the free download.
- Review optional offers only if you want them. Check the item’s actual contents and terms in your chosen storefront. Older preorder copy and expired rewards are not current offers.
In short, start with the free download on a compatible device you own. Spend money only if a particular optional item meets your needs after you have checked its current contents and conditions.
