Nvidia’s next deals are most likely to reinforce the infrastructure behind AI: cloud capacity, data-center financing, power and sites, and suppliers of networking, optics and custom silicon. That is a forecast from the company’s disclosed moves—not a named or confirmed pipeline of future targets. The headline’s $100 billion refers to a 2025 deployment-linked intention involving OpenAI, not a completed investment.
What does the $100 billion figure actually mean?
On September 22, 2025, Nvidia and OpenAI announced a letter of intent for at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems. Nvidia said it intended to invest up to $100 billion progressively as each gigawatt was deployed, with the first phase targeted for the second half of 2026. The announcement described a conditional, staged intention—not $100 billion already invested.
That arrangement should not be combined with OpenAI’s later funding round or with data-center financing and guarantees. The figures refer to different types of activity, at different times, and carry different conditions.
OpenAI’s separate 2026 funding round
The Associated Press reported that OpenAI announced a separate $110 billion funding round in February 2026, including a $30 billion commitment from Nvidia. On October 2, 2026, Spanish newspaper Cinco Días, citing The Information, reported that Nvidia and SoftBank had each paid the remaining $10 billion of their respective $30 billion commitments. That final-tranche update is secondary reporting; Nvidia’s latest quarterly filing covered the period ended July 26, 2026, and does not confirm those payments.

Where could Nvidia put capital and partnership capacity next?
The clearest signal is that Nvidia is working across the infrastructure stack, not just investing in AI model developers. The examples below show what it has disclosed and why each area could remain strategically important; none identifies a future deal as certain.
Financing and capacity for AI infrastructure
Nvidia’s August 10, 2026 announcement described memoranda of understanding with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR. The stated aim is to mobilize more than $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure over time. This is a target for capital from outside Nvidia, not an Nvidia investment. The company’s SEC filing characterizes the arrangements as preliminary and warns that they may not lead to definitive agreements.

Nvidia has also described a model with select AI-cloud partners in which cloud providers buy Nvidia infrastructure while Nvidia makes commitments to purchase cloud services. As of July 26, 2026, those service commitments totaled $36 billion and were typically six years long. Nvidia says the commitments decline as third-party customers or Nvidia use the capacity; some arrangements may also include revenue sharing. A service commitment is not the same as an equity investment.
Optics, networking and custom silicon
Nvidia announced a $2 billion investment in Coherent as part of a multiyear agreement involving optics research, manufacturing capacity, purchase commitments and future capacity rights. It also announced a $2 billion investment in Marvell alongside work on custom XPUs, NVLink Fusion, networking, silicon photonics and AI-RAN. These agreements point to interest in components and technologies that can constrain the scale or performance of AI systems.

The strategic logic is broader than acquiring more compute chips: scaling systems also depends on moving data between processors, connecting data centers and securing specialized components. The Coherent and Marvell announcements support that interpretation, but do not establish which suppliers Nvidia might approach next.
AI clouds, model developers and specialized compute
Nvidia’s fiscal 2026 results described an investment and technology partnership with Anthropic, a non-exclusive Groq licensing agreement, expanded work with AWS, and plans with CoreWeave to build AI-factory capacity. These examples span investment, licensing and commercial partnerships; they are not all equity stakes or acquisitions.

Continuing to support AI labs, cloud operators and inference providers would fit Nvidia’s interest in expanding demand for its platforms. That path has a complication: some customers are also developing alternatives to Nvidia hardware. Partnerships can expand the market while leaving Nvidia exposed to customers’ changing technology choices.
Data-center sites, power and operators
Nvidia’s filing identifies land, power, data-center shells and capital as important to infrastructure buildout, and warns that shortages could affect revenue and performance. That makes access to sites, electricity and construction capacity plausible strategic priorities alongside financing. It also means execution depends on factors beyond Nvidia’s control, including whether facilities can be built and powered on schedule.

How to distinguish the announced figures
Nvidia’s disclosures use several kinds of financial exposure. Treating them all as “investment” obscures who provides the money, what Nvidia promises in return and what conditions apply.
| Figure and date | What it measures | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| $99 billion in equity investments and $25 billion in equity investment commitments, as of July 26, 2026 | Nvidia’s company-wide portfolio and commitments | Separate reported measures; not an OpenAI-only subtotal. |
| $36 billion in AI-cloud service commitments, as of July 26, 2026 | Nvidia commitments to purchase cloud services from select partners | Typically six years; commitments decline as third parties or Nvidia use capacity. Some arrangements may include revenue sharing. |
| More than $500 billion targeted for mobilization, announced August 10, 2026 | Third-party capital intended for AI infrastructure | Based on preliminary MOUs with six financial institutions; not Nvidia capital, and definitive agreements may not result. |
| Up to $100 billion, announced September 22, 2025 | Nvidia’s intended investment alongside deployment of at least 10 gigawatts of systems for OpenAI | Letter of intent; intended progressively as each gigawatt was deployed. The first phase was targeted for the second half of 2026. |
| $30 billion commitment, reported in February 2026 | Nvidia’s commitment to OpenAI’s separate $110 billion funding round | Associated Press reporting. The October 2 report that the final $10 billion tranche was paid is secondary reporting by Cinco Días, citing The Information. |
| Up to $105 billion in aggregate | Guarantees for a specific OpenAI campus, described in Nvidia’s filing | Conditional guarantees, not equity or an automatic cash outlay. Exposure rises as facilities enter service and falls as OpenAI fulfills lease payments. |
What is the scale of Nvidia’s infrastructure business?
Nvidia reported $62.3 billion in Data Center revenue for its fourth quarter and $193.7 billion for fiscal 2026. Those company-reported results help show the commercial scale of the business around which the partnerships and financing arrangements are built; they do not predict whether a particular investment or project will succeed.
CEO Jensen Huang framed the strategy in Nvidia’s August 10, 2026 financing-platform announcement this way: “In AI, compute is revenue.” That is management’s case for treating compute capacity as an investable infrastructure asset, not an independent assessment of the returns or risks of any specific project.
What could derail this infrastructure-led strategy?
- Power and construction constraints: Nvidia warns that shortages of land, electricity, data-center shells and capital can affect its business. Financing alone cannot guarantee that facilities are delivered on time.
- Demand and utilization: AI-cloud commitments are structured to decline as customers or Nvidia use capacity, so actual utilization and third-party demand matter to the economics.
- Counterparty and lease exposure: Conditional guarantees for an OpenAI campus create exposure tied to facility operation and lease payments, rather than an immediate equity outlay.
- Agreement uncertainty: A letter of intent or preliminary MOU is not a definitive agreement. Nvidia’s filing says the financial-institution MOUs may not lead to final agreements.
- Customer alternatives: AI customers’ development of alternatives to Nvidia hardware could affect how durable their demand and partnerships are.
What is confirmed—and what remains uncertain?
The disclosed pattern supports a reasonable forecast: Nvidia is likely to keep aligning capital, commercial commitments and partnerships with the infrastructure needed to deploy AI compute. The strongest clues are its AI-cloud model, financing-platform MOUs, and investments tied to optics, networking and custom silicon.

The status of the 2025 OpenAI 10-gigawatt deployment milestones is not confirmed in the quarterly filing covering the period ended July 26, 2026, and the October report about final funding-tranche payments remains attributed secondary reporting. Future activity could take the form of equity, licensing, purchases, service commitments, guarantees or third-party financing; those forms should not be counted as interchangeable investments.
