Steam describes an investigation into places marked by strange events and hanging dolls. Players explore dangerous locations, gather evidence, uncover secrets, and use a boat as they confront the unknown. The listing establishes that premise and broad gameplay description; it does not independently document the real-photo process described in GameSpot’s report.
How are real photographs connected to the dolls?
In its October 6, 2026 report, GameSpot says Steelkrill Studio stated that “Some of the doll models you’ll find were created using real photographs.” The report also says photographs appear in the game. It describes a clip in which a photograph of a dirt-marked doll head is followed by a similar-looking head mounted on a pike in the scene.

That detail makes the connection more specific than a general resemblance to a creepy real place: according to GameSpot, photographs of real dolls informed some game models, and photographs are also part of the in-game environment. The available Steam description does not confirm those production details, so they should be understood as GameSpot’s account of the developer’s statement.
What is Mexico’s Island of the Dolls?
GameSpot identifies Isla de las Muñecas—the Island of the Dolls—as the real-world inspiration. The report recounts local folklore that associates dolls hung around the island with the spirit of a drowned girl and says caretaker Don Julián Santana collected dolls from the water.

That is a folklore account, not a verified supernatural explanation. The available reporting does not establish the story through a local government, heritage organization, academic source, or other authoritative primary source. The island’s reported role here is as an inspiration for the game’s imagery, not proof that it is haunted.
