Buy early in fall if you want a specific popular Advent calendar or need it delivered before December 1. If you’re flexible, use Black Friday as a price checkpoint: discounts may appear, but they are not guaranteed, and sought-after calendars can sell out first. December markdowns are possible, but the remaining choices and delivery dates may not suit a countdown.
When to shop for an Advent calendar
| Buying window | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Early fall through October | A particular brand, theme, or high-demand calendar; delivery before December 1 | You may pay more than a later sale price, but have more choice. The Better Business Bureau says many brands start selling calendars in early fall and advises buying early for coveted products. BBB shopping guidance and The Independent’s 2026 beauty-calendar coverage report that popular options can sell out before November. |
| November and Black Friday | Flexible shoppers willing to compare offers while stock remains | Some brands and categories discount, but there is no guaranteed best day or uniform pattern. The Independent has reported beauty-calendar reductions around Black Friday as well as early sellouts. The Independent |
| December | Shoppers open to whatever is still available, or to a non-time-sensitive gift | Discounted leftovers may have narrow selection or arrive after December 1. In December 2025, Which? described both sold-out popular calendars and marked-down remaining products; one Candy Kittens order was estimated to ship December 19–January 5. That timing makes it more like a post-Christmas treat than a usable countdown. Which? December 2025 coverage |
| After Christmas | Buying for next year or choosing a calendar as a non-seasonal treat | Clearance can be useful, but it cannot restore days in a countdown that has already started. |
Use Black Friday as a checkpoint, not a promise
Black Friday is worth checking if you can accept a substitute or are comfortable missing out. A MoneySavingExpert comparison of 50 popular products—not Advent calendars—found that Black Friday 2024 was cheaper than December 18, 2024 for 37 items (74%); pre-Christmas was cheaper for 3 (6%), and 10 (20%) tied. Its average discounts were 34% on Black Friday and 25% pre-Christmas. These results describe that sample and those dates, not calendar pricing or a forecast for 2026. MoneySavingExpert’s comparison
For another dated example, GamesRadar reported a 2026 Marvel calendar at Amazon for $35 against a stated $44.99 price. That was a snapshot, not a standing offer; check the current price, seller, stock, and delivery estimate. GamesRadar+ deal report
How to tell whether a calendar is a good deal
- Check the actual contents. Look at the door-by-door list, item count, brands, and whether products are miniature or full-size. A claimed retail value does not tell you whether the recipient will use the items.
- Compare the exact edition. Match the calendar year, theme, and contents across retailers. Contents can change annually, so last year’s review may not describe this year’s box.
- Calculate the total cost. Include shipping, tax, required membership, and coupon conditions. For a countdown, check whether the delivery estimate gets it to you before December 1.
- Check the seller and terms. Confirm who sells and fulfills the order, and review return restrictions. A discount is less useful if the seller is unreliable or the delivery promise is unclear.
- Compare the reference price. A crossed-out price alone does not establish that an offer is the lowest available. Compare current offers from other sellers and consult any price history available to you.
- Be cautious of implausible offers. The Better Business Bureau advises buying from reputable sellers and researching a company. It warns that “Deals that seem too good to be true are often a telltale sign of a scam.” Be especially wary of social-media ads, unverified glowing reviews, or prices far below reputable sellers for a popular calendar. A current US example: LEGO’s 2026 calendars
At the time checked on October 4, 2026, the official US LEGO catalog listed the 2026 Star Wars and Marvel Advent calendars at $44.99 each, and Friends and City at $34.99 each. These are live listing prices, not guaranteed future prices. LEGO US catalog
#1 Best Overall
- The 2026 Bonne Maman Advent Calendar holds 24 mini glass jars, each filled with a different limited-edition holiday spread — flavors made once a year, for December only.
- EXCLUSIVE SEASONAL FLAVORS: Each door reveals something new — festive fruit combinations and seasonal pairings that can't be found on the regular shelf any time of year.
- Every jar is made in France with real fruit, no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial additives. Non-GMO Project Verified, gluten-free, and kosher.
- The mini glass jars with their red-check lids are reusable long after December — for spices, small gifts, or holiday place settings that guests will want to keep.
- One of the few food gifts that sells out annually. Thoughtful, collectible, and genuinely delicious — for the host, the foodie, the person who has everything.
Retailer promotions are also specific to the retailer, date, and terms. For example, Target announced weekly holiday deal drops and a Holiday Price Match Guarantee for November 1–December 24, 2025. That historical policy applied to eligible items and later lower Target prices; it was not competitor price matching and does not establish Target’s 2026 policy. Check the current terms before relying on a promotion. Target’s 2025 announcement

Choose your timing based on what you can risk
- Must-have calendar: Shop in early fall and prioritize reliable delivery over the possibility of a later discount.
- Flexible on brand or theme: Compare offers through November, including Black Friday, and decide in advance which substitutes you would accept.
- Primarily seeking the lowest price: Waiting into December may reveal leftover markdowns, but treat a suitable calendar and on-time shipping as uncertain.
- Buying after December 1: Consider the calendar for next year or as a treat rather than assuming it can still serve as a timely countdown.
