If WhatsApp Web scrolling is stuttering or “whatsapp web does not scroll up properly on chrome,” try turning off Add WhatsApp doodles in chat wallpaper settings, then test the chat again. A user report describes this as a workaround, not a guaranteed or officially verified fix. If it does not help, use the checks below to narrow down whether the issue is WhatsApp Web, your browser, or your scrolling device.
Try turning off “Add WhatsApp doodles”
An iTechGuides report and an August 18, 2026 Reddit post describe reduced scrolling stutter after disabling WhatsApp’s Add WhatsApp doodles wallpaper option. The reports are anecdotal: they do not establish that this setting causes every scrolling problem or that changing it will fix yours.
- Open WhatsApp Web and open a chat.
- Open the chat’s wallpaper settings and turn off Add WhatsApp doodles.
- Return to the conversation and test scrolling up and down.
If the option is unavailable or the change makes no difference, move on to the diagnostics below rather than assuming the setting is the cause.
Diagnose where WhatsApp Web scrolling fails
Compare the affected area and the browsing conditions before clearing data or changing devices. These patterns can help narrow the possibilities, but none proves a particular cause by itself.

Work through the remaining fixes
1. Test scrolling outside WhatsApp Web
Open another website and use the same mouse wheel or trackpad. If scrolling fails there too, investigate the device or operating-system settings first. Replacing hardware is only a sensible next step if testing points to an input-device fault.
2. Reload and compare WhatsApp Web areas
Reload the page, then test the chat history, chat list, and another conversation. Note whether the problem affects one pane or the entire WhatsApp Web page. This comparison helps distinguish a localized symptom from a page-wide one, but it does not identify the underlying cause.

3. Test in a private or Incognito window
Open WhatsApp Web in a private window. If scrolling works there, disable extensions in your regular browser and re-enable them one at a time to look for a conflict. Google recommends private-window and extension checks for general Chrome loading or connection problems; applying those checks to this scrolling symptom is a diagnostic approach, not a WhatsApp-specific instruction.
4. Use a current supported browser
WhatsApp’s connection guidance lists recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and Safari for WhatsApp Web. If your browser is outdated, update it and test again.

5. Clear cache and cookies only if needed
WhatsApp recommends clearing cache and cookies, then logging out and back in, for connection issues. These are related troubleshooting steps, not a verified repair for scrolling. Clearing site data may sign you out, so try the less disruptive checks first and be prepared to sign in again.
6. Check the connection if other symptoms are present
If chats or media are also slow to send or receive, check your internet connection, try another Wi-Fi network or a hotspot, and restart the device. WhatsApp identifies a weak connection as a common reason for chat and media sending or receiving problems; that guidance does not establish a weak connection as the cause of scrolling stutter.

What the official guidance does—and does not—cover
WhatsApp’s help page addresses connection issues rather than the specific symptom of a chat pane that will not scroll. Its advice—reload, clear cache and cookies, sign out and back in, restart, or try another network—can be relevant when other connection symptoms are present, but WhatsApp does not present those steps as a guaranteed scrolling fix. The doodles setting, meanwhile, comes from user reports rather than an official WhatsApp fix notice.
