Telegram has the more established message scheduler; WhatsApp’s ordinary-chat scheduler is still reported as a limited beta rollout. Telegram documents scheduling in private chats, groups, supergroups, channels, and Saved Messages, with controls for managing queued messages. WhatsApp’s reported beta covers individual and group chats and can schedule messages from 10 minutes to two weeks ahead, but availability is not confirmed for everyone. These are separate from WhatsApp’s paid, reviewed marketing-message scheduling for businesses.
This comparison reflects feature information available as of October 31, 2026. WhatsApp’s personal-chat details come from WABetaInfo’s 2026 beta reports, while Telegram’s scheduling behavior and WhatsApp’s business workflow are described in official documentation. That difference in status matters: Telegram’s scheduler is documented, while WhatsApp’s ordinary-chat feature may not appear in every account or app build.

What’s the main difference between WhatsApp and Telegram scheduled messages?
Telegram’s scheduler is a documented native feature with a broad range of chat types and queue controls. WhatsApp’s ordinary-chat scheduler is newer and, according to 2026 reporting, remains limited to a beta rollout rather than a confirmed general release.
That distinction affects what you can count on. Telegram’s official API describes scheduled messages being placed in a server-side queue for the current chat, while Telegram’s app announcement describes scheduling in Saved Messages and silent scheduled delivery. WhatsApp’s beta reports describe scheduling personal and group chats, but do not establish comparable queue editing, recurring schedules, or silent delivery controls.

There is also a separate business case: WhatsApp’s official Help Center documents scheduling paid marketing messages to selected audiences. That reviewed, paid workflow is not the same feature as scheduling an ordinary message to a friend or group.
In practical terms, Telegram has more documented destinations and options once a message is queued. WhatsApp’s reported personal-chat feature has a narrower, specific time window and is not yet confirmed as generally available. Neither app choice should be based on a feature you cannot access: check the controls in your account, especially if you are relying on WhatsApp beta functionality for a deadline.
Which chats can you schedule messages in?
Telegram’s documented scheduler covers more chat types. WhatsApp’s reported personal-chat beta covers individual and group chats; its exact stable-release availability remains unresolved.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Telegram’s official API documentation describes scheduling for the current chat. Telegram’s official feature announcements specify private chats, groups, channels, and Saved Messages; channel use remains subject to the account’s permissions in that channel. Saved Messages is useful as a personal reminder destination: schedule a message to yourself and it will appear there at the chosen time.
The distinction between a destination and a scheduling feature is useful here. A scheduled message belongs to the chat where it was created, and the API describes a queue for the current chat. So choose the recipient or channel first, then schedule. For a channel or group, ordinary posting permissions still apply; scheduling does not give an account authority to post where it otherwise could not.
WhatsApp: individual and group chats in the reported beta
WABetaInfo’s 2026 reports describe the ordinary-chat feature in Android and iOS beta versions, covering individual and group conversations. The reports describe text, links, photos, and videos as schedulable content. They do not establish that the beta is available to every user, or that the same feature has reached a stable release for everyone.
One group-specific detail in WABetaInfo’s reporting is that a scheduled message is sent to the people who were members when it was scheduled; people who join later are not included. That means the recipient set can differ from the group’s membership when the message is eventually sent.
This is worth considering for group announcements. If membership changes between scheduling and delivery, a person who joins after the message was queued will not be included in the reported recipient set. If that person needs the information, you may need to send it separately or schedule a new message after they join.
How do you schedule a message in Telegram?
In a chat where you can send messages, compose the message, press and hold the Send button, then choose Schedule Message and select a future time. Telegram’s documented scheduler handles delivery from its server-side queue rather than relying on the sender’s device to be online at the scheduled moment.

- Open the destination. Choose the private chat, group, channel, or Saved Messages conversation where you want the message to appear. In a channel or group, you need the permissions required to post there.
- Compose the message. Enter the text or prepare the media you want to send. Check the destination before scheduling, since the scheduled queue is associated with the current chat.
- Press and hold Send. Telegram’s documented flow is to hold the Send button to reveal scheduling options, then choose Schedule Message.
- Choose the date and time. Set when the message should be delivered. Telegram’s API documentation says a requested time less than 10 seconds in the future is treated as an immediate send, rather than a future scheduled message.
- Review the scheduled queue if needed. Telegram documents operations for retrieving scheduled history, editing or deleting a queued message, and sending it immediately. The exact screen used to access these controls can vary by app version and chat.
For a reminder, use Saved Messages as the destination. For an announcement that should arrive without a notification, Telegram supports silent scheduled delivery; this is useful when the information should be available in the chat without interrupting recipients.
Telegram’s controls help when plans change after scheduling. If a detail becomes outdated, the documented queue operations let you edit or delete the scheduled item, or send it immediately if waiting no longer makes sense. Check the queued item in the relevant chat so you are managing the message for the correct destination.

Telegram’s API notes that a scheduled timestamp less than 10 seconds away is sent immediately. That is a small but useful edge case: if you are trying to use the scheduler as a short countdown, it is not a guarantee of a delayed send when the selected time is that close.
How do you schedule a message in WhatsApp?
In the reported ordinary-chat beta, compose the message, press and hold Send, and select a date and time. This flow and its availability come from beta reporting, not confirmation that every WhatsApp account has the feature.
- Check whether the feature is available to you. WABetaInfo’s 2026 coverage describes limited Android and iOS beta rollouts. If holding Send does not expose a scheduling option, the reported feature may not be enabled for your account or app build.
- Open an individual or group chat. The reports describe both types of conversation. For a group, consider who is currently a member, because the reported recipient list is based on membership when the message is scheduled.
- Prepare the message. The reported beta supports text, links, photos, and videos. Review the content and recipient before scheduling, just as you would before sending immediately.
- Press and hold Send. Choose the scheduling option, then select a date and time within the reported window: at least 10 minutes and no more than two weeks ahead, according to WABetaInfo’s 2026 reporting.
- Find or remove a pending message. Beta reports describe a dedicated scheduled-messages area and the ability to delete a message before it sends. The reports do not establish Telegram-style editing, immediate-send controls, or recurring schedules for WhatsApp ordinary chats.
WhatsApp’s official Help Center describes a different flow for paid marketing messages: a business chooses an audience, reviews pricing, and schedules a date and time. Meta may review those messages, and WhatsApp says the device must be connected when the scheduled marketing message is due. Those conditions apply to the documented business workflow; they should not be generalized to the reported ordinary-chat beta.
If the scheduling option is missing, do not assume a setting is turned off or that a standard release date has passed. The feature is described as a limited beta rollout, and WABetaInfo’s reports do not establish that all users, beta testers, or app builds receive identical controls. You can still send the message manually or use another workflow, but do not rely on an unconfirmed scheduler for a time-sensitive message.

Can WhatsApp send a scheduled message while the phone is offline?
WABetaInfo reports that the WhatsApp ordinary-chat beta can deliver scheduled messages while the sender’s device is offline. Telegram’s official API describes its own scheduled messages as being held in a server-side queue for the current chat and sent automatically at the specified time.
For WhatsApp, treat offline delivery as a reported beta capability, not a universal guarantee about every account or build. The separate official business marketing-message documentation has a different stated condition: the device must be connected when the message is due. The ordinary-chat beta report and the business Help Center describe different products, so their offline conditions should not be mixed together.
This difference is especially important for businesses. A personal-chat beta report about offline sending does not override the Help Center’s connectivity condition for scheduled paid marketing messages. Confirm which product you are using before planning a campaign or depending on delivery when a device is unavailable.

Can Telegram repeat scheduled messages?
Yes. Telegram’s official API documentation lists repeating schedules for Premium users at intervals ranging from daily to yearly.
The documented intervals are daily, weekly, every two weeks, monthly, every three months, twice yearly, and yearly. This makes Telegram suitable for a reminder or recurring announcement that follows one of those intervals. The cited WhatsApp beta reports do not establish a repeating-message feature for ordinary chats, so do not assume a WhatsApp scheduled message will recur.
Premium is specifically associated with the repeat-schedule capability in the documentation. The cited material does not establish that a Premium subscription is needed for ordinary one-time scheduled messages. If you only need to send one message later, repeating schedules are not a reason by themselves to assume you need Premium.
Can you edit or cancel a scheduled message?
Telegram explicitly documents more queue-management operations: scheduled history can be retrieved, and a queued message can be edited, deleted, or sent immediately. WhatsApp beta reporting describes a scheduled-messages area and deletion before delivery, but does not establish the same full set of controls.
On Telegram, these controls matter when plans change: a user can revise a queued message instead of letting outdated details go out, remove it, or choose to send it now. The official API documents these capabilities, although app interfaces may present them differently depending on the platform and version.
For WhatsApp ordinary chats, the beta reports support finding scheduled items and deleting them before they are sent. Since editing and immediate-send controls are not established in the cited reporting, check the options shown in your own beta rather than expecting Telegram’s management choices to be present.
A practical safeguard with either app is to verify the scheduled item after creating it: confirm the recipient or group, the intended content, and the time. This matters particularly with Telegram because its queue is per chat, and with WhatsApp groups because the reported recipient list is tied to membership at scheduling time.
What does WhatsApp’s business scheduling feature do?
WhatsApp’s official Help Center documents scheduled paid marketing messages for businesses, not a general scheduler for all personal conversations. A business can select an audience, review pricing, and choose when the marketing message should be sent.
Meta may review the message, and the Help Center says payment and device connectivity are part of the workflow: the device must be connected when the message is due to send. This differs from the reported ordinary-chat beta in purpose, audience selection, and requirements. A business looking to send a customer campaign should evaluate the documented marketing-message product on its own terms rather than treating personal-chat scheduling as a substitute.

The Help Center describes a pricing step but does not provide a single universal price in the scheduling guidance. Costs therefore depend on the applicable business workflow and pricing shown to the sender; do not assume the feature is free simply because scheduling a personal message may be available in a beta. Meta review is another practical consideration: a campaign is subject to review rather than being equivalent to a message queued directly to a friend.
For business customer outreach, use the official workflow or an approved provider suited to business messaging rather than an unofficial modified app. A consumer scheduler and a paid marketing-message product have different audiences and operating requirements.
Which app is better for reminders, group messages, and scheduled posts?
Telegram is the more capable choice when scheduling features themselves matter; WhatsApp may be preferable when the intended recipients are already there and the relevant feature is available.
Choose Telegram for recurring reminders and queue control
- Personal reminders: Schedule to Saved Messages, which Telegram identifies as a supported destination.
- Recurring reminders: Telegram Premium supports the documented repeat intervals from daily through yearly.
- Channel publishing: Telegram supports scheduled channel messages, subject to posting permissions.
- Changing plans: Telegram documents retrieval, editing, deletion, and immediate sending for scheduled messages.
- Quiet delivery: Telegram supports silent scheduled messages.
Choose WhatsApp when the conversation is already there
- Friends, family, or groups: The reported beta covers individual and group chats, provided the feature is available to your account.
- Short-horizon plans: The reported schedule window of 10 minutes to two weeks can cover near-term messages, but is narrower than an unspecified future Telegram timestamp.
- Group membership considerations: The reported beta’s recipient set is based on group membership when the message is scheduled.
- Customer campaigns: Use the separate paid marketing-message workflow if it fits the business need, and account for its review, payment, and connectivity conditions.
For a simple one-off message, the best choice is often the app the recipient actually checks. For a workflow that depends on recurrence, personal reminder queues, channel scheduling, silent delivery, or explicit queue controls, Telegram has the stronger documented feature set. For WhatsApp, first verify that ordinary-chat scheduling has appeared in the version and account you use.

What is not yet established about WhatsApp scheduling?
As of October 31, 2026, WABetaInfo’s 2026 reports describe a limited beta, so several details should not be treated as settled for every WhatsApp user.
- General stable availability: The reports do not establish a confirmed date when ordinary-chat scheduling will be available to all users.
- Recurring messages: The cited beta reports do not establish repeat schedules.
- Silent delivery: The cited sources do not establish an ordinary-chat equivalent to Telegram’s silent scheduled delivery.
- Full queue management: Deletion is reported, but the same sources do not establish editing and send-now controls comparable to Telegram’s documented API operations.
- Identical behavior across all builds: Beta features can differ by rollout and app build; the reporting does not establish that every tester sees the same controls.
Those are evidence limits, not proof that WhatsApp will never add the capabilities. For a decision today, use only the controls visible in your account and distinguish confirmed official Help Center behavior for business marketing messages from beta reporting about ordinary chats.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does someone know that I scheduled a Telegram message?
Telegram’s cited scheduling documentation describes automatic delivery from a server-side queue, but it does not establish a recipient notification that reveals when the sender queued the message. The recipient-facing result is the message arriving at its scheduled time.

Do I need Telegram Premium to schedule a one-time message?
The official documentation ties Premium to repeating schedules, not to ordinary one-time scheduling. It does not state that a Premium subscription is required for a one-time scheduled message.
Can I schedule a WhatsApp message more than two weeks ahead?
The reported ordinary-chat beta window tops out at two weeks, so the cited reporting does not support scheduling further ahead with that feature. WhatsApp’s business marketing-message workflow is separate and has its own terms.
Will a new member of a WhatsApp group receive a message that was scheduled before they joined?
WABetaInfo’s 2026 reporting says the scheduled group message is sent to members who were in the group when it was scheduled; later joiners are not included.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Telegram is the stronger choice for established, flexible scheduling: it supports more chat types, a server-side queue, Saved Messages reminders, silent delivery, queue controls, and repeating schedules for Premium users. WhatsApp’s ordinary-chat scheduler is reported as a limited beta with a 10-minute-to-two-week window, so check whether it is actually available in your account.
