Reported WhatsApp guest chats let someone without a WhatsApp account join a one-to-one conversation through an invitation link in a browser. But the feature has been described as a limited beta, not a confirmed general release, so it may not be available to you.
How a reported WhatsApp guest chat works
In the flow described by 9to5Mac on March 16, 2026, a WhatsApp user creates an invitation from an “Invite a friend” section and shares the link by text message or another app. The recipient opens it in a browser, accepts WhatsApp’s terms, enters a name, and starts the conversation. WABetaInfo’s March 22, 2026 report also describes browser-based joining without an account.
The invitation is not private to its intended recipient: 9to5Mac’s report says anyone who obtains the invite code can join. Share it only with people you want to be able to enter the chat.
Who can use guest chats?
The reports describe limited beta access and warn that availability may be restricted, still in development, or rolling out gradually. They do not establish that guest chats are available to all WhatsApp users. The reporting does not specify a reliable way for every user to check or enable access, so an “Invite a friend” option may not appear in your app.

What the beta reportedly supports—and does not
According to the March 16 report, guest chats were limited to one-to-one text conversations. The reported beta did not support:
- Group chats
- Voice messages
- Attachments, stickers, or GIFs
- Voice or video calls
The same report says a guest chat expires after ten days without activity. These are reported beta details, not a guarantee of the capabilities or expiry rules in a later release.

What is known about guest-chat privacy?
9to5Mac, citing WABetaInfo, reports that guest chats use end-to-end encryption and that a guest identifier is used to create an encryption key. This is reporting about the guest-chat implementation, not a guest-specific confirmation from Meta in the official source available here.
Meta’s August 9, 2022 privacy announcement says personal WhatsApp calls and messages are protected with default end-to-end encryption. That statement describes WhatsApp generally and does not independently verify how guest chats are encrypted.

Guest chats are not guest calls
Guest calls are a separate feature. In a September 7, 2026 report, WABetaInfo said guest calls were under development and not yet available for testing; it also reported no official public release timeline. That does not add calling to the guest-chat beta described above.

If you do not have WhatsApp and the person you want to reach cannot provide a working guest-chat invitation, use another messaging method you both already have. The reports do not establish broad guest-chat availability or a supported way to turn the feature on for accounts outside the beta.
