No verified current winner can be established. The best-documented lead is a XenForo community thread whose starter reported 208,000 replies on November 10, 2024. That is a participant’s claim, not an independently audited record, and the available evidence does not show whether the thread is still receiving replies today.
The best current answer is an unverified lead
The XenForo discussion titled “The longest forum thread on the internet” is the clearest identifiable candidate. Its starter, Kleazy, wrote on November 10, 2024: “We are at 208k replies. Mostly conversations, a little bit of post bumping. Maybe less then 5%.” The statement describes the thread’s condition at that date; it does not prove a present-day count or continuing activity.
Other participants in the same discussion mentioned unidentified threads with 331,000 and almost 500,000 replies. Because those comments did not name the forums or provide corroborating count evidence, they cannot be ranked against the XenForo candidate.
Why there is no reliable global record
Forum software does not provide a universal record system. The historical claims use different dates, definitions and measurements, and many are informal posts by forum members. A defensible answer must establish all of the following for the same thread:
#1 Best Overall
- an identifiable discussion with an accessible post or reply count;
- a consistent cutoff date for comparing candidates;
- a recent reply date proving that “active” is still true;
- replies remain enabled; and
- a stated policy on automated, spam or deleted posts.
The 2010 report that asked whether an official world record existed shows that this uncertainty has persisted for years. It is not evidence that no record authority exists today.
Reported candidates and historical comparisons
| Reported figure | Forum or source | Date of report | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 208,000 replies | XenForo community thread, reported by starter Kleazy | November 10, 2024 | Identifiable lead; current activity and independent verification are not established |
| 331,000 replies | Unidentified thread mentioned by a XenForo participant | 2024 | Unverified comparison |
| Nearly 500,000 replies | Unidentified thread mentioned by a XenForo participant | 2024 | Unverified comparison |
| 92,000 replies | ExtremeTech thread, as reported by AnandTech participants | 2007 | Historical claim only |
| 130,070 replies | Unidentified forum, as reported in an AnandTech discussion | 2007 | Historical claim only |
| More than 131,000 posts | GTAGaming thread, as reported by an AnandTech participant | 2008 | Historical claim only |
| 81,252 posts; 1,171,964 views | Eagles forum thread, reported in AnandTech | 2008 | Historical post and view counts; not a current ranking |
| 245,528 posts; more than 3 million views | Mums’ Club board on iVillage, reported by Zofia.C’s Blog | July 2010 | Reported as still growing then; present availability and activity are unknown |
These figures are not interchangeable standings. They were reported in different years, use both “posts” and “replies,” and vary in verification quality.
Rank #2
Posts, views and pages measure different things
Use post or reply count as the primary length measure. Views indicate visits, not discussion length: the 2008 Eagles example listed 81,252 posts alongside 1,171,964 views, while the 2010 iVillage report listed 245,528 posts and more than three million views.

Page totals are also unsuitable unless every forum uses the same posts-per-page setting. An AnandTech participant noted that 300 pages could represent very different post totals if one forum displays five posts per page and another displays 100.
How to verify a “longest active thread” claim
- Identify the exact thread. Record its title, forum and canonical URL.
- Read the live count. Capture the displayed total of posts or replies and the date and time checked.
- Confirm recent activity. Check the newest reply’s timestamp rather than assuming a large thread is still active.
- Check that posting remains open. A large archived thread is not an active one.
- Document counting rules. Note whether automated posts, spam, deleted posts or merged discussions are included.
- Compare on one cutoff date. Recheck every candidate under the same date and unit.
What the XenForo moderation detail means
When participants asked whether botting should count, the thread starter said new users below a post-count threshold are manually approved and discovered bot posts are removed. That describes the community’s reported moderation practice; it is not an independent audit of the 208,000-reply figure.

The accurate answer is that no globally verified forum thread can currently be identified as both the longest and still active. The XenForo thread is a useful, named lead at a reported 208,000 replies in November 2024, while larger numbers cited in that discussion remain unidentified. Older claims from ExtremeTech, GTAGaming, an Eagles forum and iVillage document how large forum discussions became, but none proves a present-day record.
