iOS 18.3 adds two Camera Control actions to Visual Intelligence, changes how Notification Summaries appear and can be managed, and fixes several smaller issues. The features have different device requirements: Apple lists Visual Intelligence with Camera Control for all iPhone 16 models, while Notification Summaries are listed for all iPhone 16 models and iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
What’s new in iOS 18.3?
Apple’s iOS 18 update-history page describes iOS 18.3 as adding Visual Intelligence capabilities, updates to Notification Summaries and several fixes. The page also lists later iOS 18 releases, so these are iOS 18.3’s changes—not a claim that 18.3 is the newest iOS 18 version. Apple notes that some features may not be available in every region or on every Apple device. Apple’s iOS 18 update history.
Visual Intelligence can add events and identify living things
On supported iPhone 16 models, Visual Intelligence used with Camera Control can add an event to Calendar from a poster or flyer, and identify plants and animals. Apple lists all iPhone 16 models for these Camera Control-based changes.
Notification Summaries are easier to distinguish and manage
Summarized notifications use italicized text and a glyph so they are visually distinct from other notifications. You can also manage Notification Summary settings from the Lock Screen.

Which iPhones support Visual Intelligence and Notification Summaries?
Apple gives different eligibility lists for the two features in its iOS 18.3 notes. A device’s inclusion for Notification Summaries does not mean it is listed for the Camera Control Visual Intelligence changes.
| Feature in iOS 18.3 | Devices Apple lists |
|---|---|
| Visual Intelligence with Camera Control: add Calendar events from posters or flyers; identify plants and animals | All iPhone 16 models |
| Notification Summaries | All iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max |
Apple’s broader October 2024 announcement about Apple Intelligence named iPhone 16 models and iPhone 15 Pro models among compatible devices, but that general compatibility context does not replace the feature-specific list above. Feature availability may also vary by region.

Why are Notification Summaries unavailable for some apps?
Apple says Notification Summaries for News and Entertainment apps are temporarily unavailable for users who opt in. Apple’s wording is temporary: availability is expected to resume when the feature becomes available. It is not described as a permanent removal. The current status and feature notes are on Apple’s iOS update-history page.
How do I manage Notification Summaries from the Lock Screen?
In iOS 18.3, Apple says Notification Summary settings can be managed from the Lock Screen. The update notes do not specify a more detailed sequence of taps, so the reliable guidance is to use the Lock Screen’s summary controls rather than assume a particular menu path. Summarized notifications are marked with italicized text and a glyph.
