A LinkedIn collaborative post is a single post that a member or Page publishes with invited collaborators. Once an invitee accepts, the post is associated with that person’s profile or Page as well as the creator’s. You can invite up to five collaborators, but the post must be public, and the feature may not yet be available in every account.

What a LinkedIn collaborative post does

LinkedIn describes collaborative posts as a way to invite connections or Pages to collaborate on one post. The creator starts and publishes it; invited people decide whether to accept. An accepted collaborator is identified on the post, which also appears on their profile or Page. An invitation alone does not add someone as a collaborator.

LinkedIn says it is introducing the feature globally in its July 23, 2026 announcement, while its Help guidance notes that availability is still subject to a gradual rollout. Check the post composer in your account rather than assuming every member or Page can use it. LinkedIn Help: Collaborate on a LinkedIn post and LinkedIn News, July 23, 2026.

Limits and supported post formats

  • Collaborators: Up to five collaborators may be invited to a post, according to LinkedIn Help and its 2026 announcement.
  • Visibility: Collaborative posts must be public.
  • Formats: LinkedIn lists text, images, video, third-party links, storylines, documents, celebrations, polls, and events as supported formats. Availability of the collaborative-post feature itself may vary by account.

These details are from LinkedIn’s post guidance and its July 23, 2026 announcement.

How to create a collaborative post

As a LinkedIn member on desktop

  1. Start a post and write its content.
  2. Choose Add collaborators in the composer.
  3. Search for and select the connections you want to invite, then save the selection.
  4. Publish the post. LinkedIn sends the invitees a notification so they can accept or decline.

On mobile or as a Page

On mobile, use the collaborator control in the post composer; the steps are similar to desktop. Page admins can create collaborative posts for their Page and must accept invitations on behalf of a Page. Before inviting a person or Page, check that their settings allow mentions and collaboration. Notification settings can also affect whether an invitation notification arrives. See LinkedIn’s Create a collaborative post guidance and Page collaboration information.

If an invitee declines, the post remains on the creator’s profile or Page only. It does not become a shared post with that invitee.

Managing collaborators after publication

The creator can edit the collaborator list after publishing by editing the post and using its collaborator-editing control. Adding someone sends a new invitation; removing someone removes them from the post whether their invitation is pending or accepted. Only the creator can remove other collaborators. An accepted collaborator may remove themselves, which ends the post’s association with their profile or Page and their access to its engagement metrics. LinkedIn explains these controls in Manage collaborators on a collaborative post on LinkedIn.

Collaborative post or regular post with partner mentions?

Consideration Collaborative post Regular post with mentions
Profile or Page association After accepting, a collaborator is associated with the post on their profile or Page. A mention does not, by itself, make the other party a collaborator on the post.
Participant action Each invitee must accept to appear as a collaborator. No collaboration invitation acceptance is needed just to mention someone.
Visibility Must be public. The cited LinkedIn collaborative-post guidance does not establish a comparable visibility requirement for ordinary posts.
Post management The creator manages other collaborators; accepted collaborators can remove themselves. The collaborative-post controls do not apply.
Performance evidence LinkedIn describes broader audience potential, but does not promise a specific reach or engagement increase. LinkedIn’s reviewed guidance provides no controlled comparison of reach against collaborative posts.

Use a collaborative post when both parties want the post associated with their profiles or Pages, every invitee is willing and able to accept, and public visibility suits the content. A regular post with mentions may fit better if you do not need that shared association or cannot rely on invitees to accept. For Page collaborations, also consider the analytics limitation below.

Page analytics and responsibility

The creator is responsible for ensuring the post complies with LinkedIn’s policies. Page admins can see performance in Page analytics, but LinkedIn says engagement metrics are unavailable for Pages added as collaborators. That limitation matters if each participating Page needs to evaluate the post using its own engagement data. See LinkedIn Help: Collaborate on a LinkedIn post.

Do not confuse collaborative posts with collaborative articles

Collaborative articles are a separate LinkedIn feature. LinkedIn says it is no longer creating new collaborative articles or accepting contributions; existing articles and contributions are read-only. Those changes do not describe collaborative posts, which are a post format with invited collaborators. See LinkedIn Help: Collaborative articles.
