For identity sign-in, an app receives your name, email address, and profile picture if you have one. Signing in alone does not give the app your ChatGPT conversations, memories, files, billing information, or other ChatGPT account data. Any extra access must be requested and authorized separately.
What the app receives during identity sign-in
OpenAI’s Help Center says: “For identity sign-in, the external application receives only your name, email address, and profile picture, if you have one.” OpenAI’s Sign in with ChatGPT guide describes these as identity details, not access to your broader ChatGPT account.
The developer documentation also describes identity scopes that provide a stable account identifier alongside basic profile information. Those scopes do not grant access to conversations or OpenAI API resources. The user-facing summary of information received by an app is the three identity fields above. What identity sign-in does not share
Identity sign-in by itself does not independently share your ChatGPT conversations or memories, files or tokens, billing information, or other ChatGPT account data. An app does not gain conversation access just because you used ChatGPT to sign in.

Keep this separate from using an app feature that sends data to a third-party application. OpenAI’s terms describe data sent through enabled Apps under the terms of those applications; that is a different capability from identity-only sign-in. OpenAI Terms of Use
Three permission layers—and who receives what

OpenAI’s processing for sign-in can include account identifiers, email, authentication provider, selected workspace or organization, app identity, requested and approved permissions, authorization outcome, and technical or security details such as IP address, inferred location, browser or app version, device identifiers, and security signals. Review permissions before approving
The sign-in flow shows the identity information the app will receive. Read that screen and inspect each additional permission separately; do not assume a request for data or actions is part of basic sign-in. Organization settings can affect which apps are available, but an administrator’s approval does not replace your own authorization.
For an organization account, a global admin manages organization-level app permissions in Admin Console under External access. An approved app may therefore be available to members, while an individual member still has to authorize its requested access, subject to the organization’s settings. Does signing in let an app use your ChatGPT plan?
Some participating apps may offer an optional way to use an eligible ChatGPT plan for supported requests. That is a separate permission from identity sign-in; it does not itself expose your conversations or memories, and it does not share an API key. Whether the option appears depends on plan and app eligibility, so check the current authorization screen and OpenAI’s plan-use guidance.
How to disconnect an app and handle data it already received
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and login → Login connections and look for the app’s connection. The control is available where OpenAI provides connection management. OpenAI’s Sign in with ChatGPT guide
- If a Disconnect control is shown, use it to end the connection. Some sign-in-only connections may not show that control; in that case, sign out of the app to end its session.
- To request deletion of information the app already received, use the app’s own account or data controls, or contact the app’s provider. Disconnecting or signing out does not by itself erase data already delivered to that app.
Availability can vary
OpenAI describes identity sign-in as globally available to authenticated users, including enterprise users, with rollout across select partner sites and plugins. Optional ChatGPT plan use has separate plan and participating-app eligibility requirements. Availability and settings can change; rely on the current sign-in screen and account settings rather than assuming every partner or permission is available everywhere.
