Start with Fire Emblem: Three Houses if you want another character-focused, turn-based adventure connected to the world of Fortune’s Weave. It is set in Fódlan, while Fortune’s Weave takes place in Dagda, a different region of that world. But the newer game was designed to stand on its own: Three Houses is a strong next choice, not required homework. If you mainly want more modern grid battles, choose Engage; if you want familiar Fódlan characters and are happy to trade turn-based tactics for real-time action, consider Warriors: Three Hopes.
Fortune’s Weave launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026. The recommendations below are based on Nintendo’s descriptions of each game and their access routes, not on comparative playtesting.

Which Fire Emblem game should you play first after Fortune’s Weave?
Three Houses is the clearest first choice if the appeal of Fortune’s Weave was its setting, relationships and tactical battles. It gives you more of the connected world without making knowledge of its story a condition for understanding the newer game.

Nintendo’s developers explain that Fortune’s Weave takes place in Dagda, south of Fódlan, and say they designed it to stand on its own. Intelligent Systems producer Masahiro Higuchi put the relationship this way: “So rather than thinking of it as a sequel, we’d like players to see it as a new title.” The interview was published in English as a translation on September 15, 2026. Nintendo’s developer interview provides the context.

That distinction helps make the choice simple: play Three Houses for a closer connection to Fódlan and its character-centered approach; choose Engage if you want another modern tactical game in a separate setting; pick Three Hopes if you want to revisit Fódlan but are open to a substantially different combat format.
1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses — best for the closest connection
Choose Three Houses for its Fódlan setting, student relationships, class development and turn-based tactical battles. It is the strongest overall next stop for someone who wants a similar mix of characters and strategy, while still being a separate game with its own story.
You take the role of a professor at the Officers Academy and choose one of three houses to teach. Nintendo’s description centers the story on the academy and its students; the house choice shapes the perspective you follow as conflict unfolds. That structure is meaningfully different from Fortune’s Weave, which has four protagonist paths that can be switched between and ultimately converge. It is not a one-to-one continuation of the newer game’s route structure.

Fortune’s Weave borrows some character-building ideas, but the academy and the house choice give Three Houses its own rhythm and focus. If you enjoyed building a party and getting to know its members, this is a good reason to try it. If you are expecting the four paths, Heroic Games, city preparation or dungeon encounters to carry over unchanged, treat those as features specific to Fortune’s Weave rather than a checklist for the older game.
It is available as a Nintendo Switch game and is listed as compatible with Switch 2. Nintendo’s game listing describes the academy premise; the company’s developer interview explains how the two games relate. Together, those sources make this the best fit for the shared-world question, but not a prerequisite for playing Fortune’s Weave.
2. Fire Emblem Engage — best for another modern tactical game
Pick Engage if what you want most is another contemporary, turn-based Fire Emblem built around grid battles, rather than a return to Fódlan. Its setting is Elyos, and its defining hook is the use of Emblem Rings to equip powers associated with heroes from the series.

This makes it an easy alternative when you want to keep playing tactical battles but do not need the same world or character focus. Nintendo’s description presents Engage as its own adventure centered on Alear and the Emblem Rings. The Switch version is listed as compatible with Switch 2. See Nintendo’s Engage listing for the official premise.
There is no useful universal verdict that one of Engage and Three Houses has the “better” story or combat. Their documented draws differ: Three Houses offers the closer world connection and academy setting; Engage offers a separate setting and a tactical system built around Emblem Rings. Choose based on which of those appeals more.
3. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance — best classic with a Switch 2 access route
For an older campaign without tracking down original hardware and a GameCube disc, Path of Radiance is the clearest classic recommendation: Nintendo added it to GameCube Classics on January 8, 2026, for Switch 2 subscribers with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
The 2005 GameCube game follows Ike in Tellius. Nintendo’s description also flags consequential unit loss in battle, an important consideration if you prefer a lower-stakes approach to keeping a roster intact. This is access to a classic through Nintendo Classics, not support for inserting an original GameCube disc into Switch 2.
You need the Expansion Pack tier to access GameCube Classics on Switch 2. Nintendo describes the GameCube-style Switch 2 controller as an optional accessory, not a requirement. Check Nintendo’s announcement for Path of Radiance for the game’s addition and access details. This is a particularly practical recommendation if you want to explore the series’ older entries using hardware you already have.
4. Fire Emblem and The Sacred Stones — best GBA Classics choices
If you want older, handheld-era Fire Emblem games on Switch 2, Nintendo lists both Fire Emblem and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones in its Game Boy Advance Classics catalog. They are separate choices, but share the same access requirement: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Take care with the catalog name Fire Emblem: Nintendo uses that title for the GBA game, not as a label for the entire franchise. The Sacred Stones is explicitly listed by its own title. Nintendo Classics access is part of a membership; it is not the same as buying a separate Switch cartridge for either game.
The official Game Boy Advance Classics catalog is the place to confirm the current list. Nintendo says the broader Nintendo Classics library includes more than 150 games, but that figure is for the whole library, not the number of Fire Emblem titles. The GBA route is useful if you want to go further back without sourcing a compatible older handheld and individual game copies.
5. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia — best for an exploration comparison
Consider Echoes: Shadows of Valentia if the dungeon-exploration side of Fortune’s Weave is what you want to compare. A developer directly identified Echoes as an earlier Fire Emblem entry with dungeon exploration, so it is a more specific match for that interest than a general recommendation based only on turn-based combat.
The catch is hardware: Echoes is a Nintendo 3DS-family game, not a Switch 2 release. That means it is not the convenient choice if you only have a Switch 2. Check the game’s platform and hardware requirements before seeking a copy; do not assume its presence in the series means it can be played through Switch 2’s Nintendo Classics catalog. Nintendo discusses the exploration connection in its second Fortune’s Weave developer interview.
6. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes — best for Fódlan in real-time action
Play Three Hopes if you want to return to Fódlan and see familiar Three Houses characters, but only if you are open to a different kind of combat. Nintendo describes its fights as strategic, real-time, 1-versus-1,000-style action—not conventional turn-based grid battles.
That difference is the key buying decision. The game has three leader-dependent stories and recognizable characters, but it is not the closest choice for someone specifically seeking another turn-based tactics game. Its Nintendo Switch version is listed as compatible with Switch 2. Nintendo also offers a free demo, and progress carries into the full game, giving interested players a way to assess its action format before committing.

Read Nintendo’s Three Hopes listing for its description and demo information. If the turn-based decisions in Fortune’s Weave are the part you most want to repeat, choose Three Houses or Engage instead.

7. Fire Emblem Awakening — an optional 3DS-era detour
Awakening is worth considering if you already have access to Nintendo 3DS-family hardware and want to explore another older entry. Nintendo’s introductory guidance refers to a Nintendo 3DS game card and includes advice for people new to Fire Emblem, so the game is not presented only as a choice for series veterans.
It is not a Switch 2 recommendation, and the available information does not establish a current digital-store route. Treat it as a 3DS-family option, and check that your hardware accepts the game card and that the copy you are considering is appropriate for your system before purchase. Nintendo’s introductory guide is a useful source for its intended platform.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you choose if you only have a Switch 2?
If you only have a Switch 2, begin with Three Houses for the closest combination of connected setting, character development and turn-based tactics. Choose Engage for a separate modern tactical adventure, or Three Hopes if you specifically want more Fódlan and are ready for real-time combat.
For older games, check whether you have the required Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership: it provides access to Path of Radiance through GameCube Classics on Switch 2, and to the two named GBA games through Game Boy Advance Classics. The GameCube controller is optional. Echoes and Awakening instead require 3DS-family hardware; neither should be presented as a Switch 2 release.
More broadly, your interests make the shortlist straightforward:

- More of the shared world: Three Houses.
- Another modern turn-based tactics game: Engage.

- Dungeon exploration on older hardware: Echoes on a 3DS-family system.
How we picked
These recommendations follow the reader’s likely next-step questions: which game has a documented world connection, which offers another modern turn-based tactical adventure, which changes the combat style, and which older entries have an official route on Switch 2. The list also makes hardware and subscription requirements visible rather than treating every game as equally easy to access. “Best” here means best match for the stated interest, based on Nintendo’s game descriptions and developer interviews—not a measured ranking or a claim that every player will prefer the same entry.
If you want a tactical game outside Fire Emblem, Triangle Strategy is a Switch game listed as compatible with Switch 2, with terrain tactics and story-shaping votes. Unicorn Overlord is another compatible Switch game for players interested in world traversal and assembling units, but Nintendo describes a different battle system. Neither is a Fire Emblem game, so they are alternatives only if you want to branch out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack give me more than 150 Fire Emblem games?
No. Nintendo’s figure of more than 150 refers to the combined Nintendo Classics library, not to Fire Emblem alone. The GBA catalog names Fire Emblem and The Sacred Stones, while Path of Radiance is available through GameCube Classics on Switch 2.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDo I need the GameCube-style controller to play Path of Radiance on Switch 2?
No. Nintendo describes the controller as optional; access to the game itself is through GameCube Classics with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on Switch 2. An original GameCube disc is not the Switch 2 access route.
Can I play Fire Emblem Echoes on a Switch 2?
The supplied Nintendo information identifies Echoes: Shadows of Valentia as a Nintendo 3DS-family title, not a Switch 2 release. Plan on compatible 3DS-family hardware rather than assuming it is available through Switch 2 Classics.
Is Fortune’s Weave DLC required to enjoy another Fire Emblem game?
No. Nintendo announced a first DLC wave for Fortune’s Weave on October 15, 2026, but it is not a prerequisite for playing any of the games recommended here. You can choose a next game based on its setting, combat and hardware requirements.
