Those elements do not always travel together. Twin Mirror puts more emphasis on reconstructing events, while Disco Elysium turns investigation into a role-playing system. Detroit: Become Human has consequential choices but is a science-fiction drama rather than a focused noir case. The Quarry is best understood as a group-oriented survival horror game, not a conventional detective story. Private investigator John Blacksad follows a boxer’s disappearance and the death of a boxing-club owner in a 1950s New York populated by animal characters. That combination makes Blacksad: Under the Skin the strongest overall match for someone asking for another animal-character noir investigation. The referenced US listing is for PS4 and notes that the experience may differ when played on PS5. Verify the platform and compatibility details for the version you intend to buy.
Disco Elysium – The Final Cut: investigation as role-playing
Disco Elysium – The Final Cut puts a murder investigation in Revachol at the center of an expansive, dialogue-heavy RPG. PlayStation’s description highlights detective skills and the Thought Cabinet, alongside many ways to approach people. Rather than following a fixed cinematic sequence of clue scenes, you play a detective whose abilities and interactions shape how he approaches the case.

It follows three android protagonists whose decisions affect their own futures and may affect the city. The scale of its decisions should not be overstated. The available information supports describing choices as consequential, but not assigning a number of endings or promising that each small action produces a unique scene. Life Is Strange: Double Exposure
Here, Max pursues her friend’s murder across two timelines. PlayStation’s description says choices shape both timelines, giving the investigation a more explicitly supernatural structure. Choose it if the idea of following a murder across alternate versions of events appeals more than interviewing a lineup of suspects in a conventional crime story.
6. Is Pentiment a good pick for a slower mystery?
Yes, if you want a historical investigation where social relationships and a community matter as much as solving a case. Artist Andreas Maler investigates murders near a Bavarian village and abbey, and choices affect interactions and the community over a 25-year mystery. The long span gives its decisions a different weight from a single tense exchange in a contemporary crime drama.
Its pace and setting are the key trade-offs. Expect patient historical drama and careful attention to people, not neon-lit noir, supernatural folklore or quick-time action. Pentiment is a strong choice for readers who like mysteries shaped by a place and its social relationships; it is not the nearest match if what you want is Bigby’s visual style or action-pressure scenes.

7. Should I choose Heavy Rain for a faster thriller?
Choose Heavy Rain for a more perilous, cinematic hunt for a serial killer. Four characters pursue the Origami Killer, and choices can change who lives. Its multiple perspectives and danger make it a natural option for readers who want a tense narrative thriller rather than a slower investigation.
The difference is the level and kind of pressure: this story centers on direct peril, while Pentiment asks you to follow a historical case and its community over time. The premise overlaps with crime fiction, but it does not offer the same folklore-noir combination as Bigby’s world. Consider it when urgency and character survival matter more than matching Telltale’s setting.

8. Is The Expanse: A Telltale Series worth playing without noir?
Yes, if the part you want to repeat is Telltale’s choice-driven format rather than the murder-mystery setting. This episodic science-fiction adventure follows Camina Drummer. Its official FAQ says both conversations and discoveries made during exploration can lead to different paths, so choices are not limited to dialogue alone.
It is therefore a useful bridge for players who want another Telltale adventure but are ready to leave Bigby’s urban fantasy behind. What is changing with The Wolf Among Us itself?
Telltale’s October 8, 2026 announcement set October 29, 2026 as the digital launch date for The Wolf Among Us Remastered. The remaster page describes all five episodes, a switchable black-and-white Noir Mode and bonus material. The announcement also said physical retail editions were planned for Q1 2027; that is a future plan, not confirmation that a physical copy is already in stock or that every platform will get the same configuration.
If you are considering waiting for a sequel instead, Telltale’s official The Wolf Among Us 2 page says it is coming to PC and consoles but does not give a release date. It is not a currently dated alternative to the games above. Check the official game page and your local store for availability and edition details as they change.
