Before preordering, compare the exact edition contents for your platform and region, confirm which seller’s bonus applies and how it is delivered, and check when payment is taken and how cancellation works. Digital downloads or preloads can affect refund eligibility; physical orders have shipping and return terms. Save the product listing and order confirmation. Rules depend on the platform, seller, region, and applicable local law.
Compare editions by what you will actually use
Edition names such as “Deluxe” or “Ultimate” do not guarantee a standard set of extras. Contents are specific to the game, platform, region, and offer. Check the current publisher or store listing for the exact edition you are considering; no particular game’s contents are established here.

Compare these details before paying:
- Included content: Identify the base game, expansions or season pass, cosmetics, early access, soundtrack, artbook, and physical collectibles. Note whether an item requires a separate download.
- Platform and entitlement: Confirm the platform and game version. Check upgrade rights, account restrictions, and whether extras are physical items, voucher codes, or entitlements attached to an account.
- Offer eligibility: Verify which edition qualifies for each bonus, which seller is offering it, the territory and preorder deadline, and whether delivery is by code, account entitlement, or shipment. Offers can vary by retailer and may be limited-stock.
- Total cost: Include taxes and shipping, then consider when the seller will charge you.
- Exit terms: Read the cancellation cutoff, refund requirements, and any effect of downloading, preloading, or returning a bundle.
An edition is only “best” for a buyer whose priorities justify its extras. Consider whether you would buy each added item separately, rather than paying more for a label or a bonus you may not use.
Check how and when preorder bonuses arrive
Do not assume all retailers or editions provide the same bonus, or that a bonus arrives when you place the order. Confirm the current offer on the seller’s listing and keep a copy of it.

For example, Nintendo of America says that when a game offers bonus content, its download code is available only after payment is processed and the game has preloaded. Under its eShop process, that can be no sooner than seven days before release. The timing is specific to Nintendo of America’s policy, not a general rule for other stores. Nintendo eShop Pre-Order and Pre-Load FAQ
Also check what happens if you cancel. PlayStation’s Ireland support guidance says an immediately available extra included with a preorder stops working when the preorder is canceled. That is a reminder to check the relevant storefront’s treatment of bonuses rather than assuming that a delivered code or entitlement remains usable. PlayStation Store refund guidance for Ireland
When will you be charged?
Payment timing varies by storefront, payment method, and whether the order is digital or physical. The figures below describe named policies and regions; they are not universal promises. Check the checkout terms for your order.

Digital preorder cancellation and refunds depend on the platform
A preorder’s cancellation window is not the same everywhere, and starting a download or preload can matter. The following examples are limited to the named regional policies.
PlayStation Store in the UK
Under PlayStation Store UK’s digital preorder policy, an order placed more than 14 days before release may be canceled before release for a refund if the main content has not started downloading or streaming, including preload. For an order placed 14 days or less before release, cancellation is available up to 14 days after payment, subject to the same restriction on downloading or streaming the main content. Starting the main download generally removes eligibility unless the product is faulty. Automatic Downloads can start the main download, so check that setting if you intend to preserve the cancellation option. PlayStation Store cancellation policy (UK)

PlayStation Store in Ireland
PlayStation’s Ireland support page says that for a preorder placed more than 14 days before release, request the refund before release and do not download or preload the main content. For orders placed less than 14 days before release, it says to request before release or, after release, within 14 days from purchase, while keeping the main content undownloaded and unpreloaded. The page says refunds may take 10 days and go to the original payment method where possible, otherwise to the wallet. These instructions are Ireland-specific. Microsoft Store and Xbox
Microsoft’s US Store guidance says a billed preorder canceled before release is processed as a refund. If the Cancel option is no longer available, the order may already be billed or shipped; Xbox digital purchases may require a separate refund request rather than cancellation. Nintendo of America’s FAQ says an eShop preorder can be canceled before payment is processed and preload begins, which is up to seven days before release under that process. Its general US digital-products policy says payments through Nintendo Account services, including pre-purchases, are final and non-refundable except as authorized by Nintendo or required by applicable law. Physical preorders have separate shipping and return terms
A physical preorder is governed by the retailer’s shipping, cancellation, and return policies, which may differ from digital-store rules. Nintendo of America says a physical Nintendo Store pre-purchase is charged immediately, requires contacting support to cancel, and ships one to three business days after release. PlayStation Direct says physical cancellation is possible before the item enters shipping; check the current order page and regional terms for the precise process. Nintendo preorders and pre-purchases · PlayStation Store cancellation policy (UK)
Microsoft’s preorder price guarantee is another seller-specific term: it applies to qualifying physical preorder items and prices offered by Microsoft Store, with the buyer charged the lowest qualifying Microsoft Store price between preorder and public release. It excludes digital items, other sellers, tax, shipping, and typographical errors. Do not assume another retailer offers the same guarantee. Microsoft Store preorder guidance
Quick Recap
Before you place the order
- Open the listing for the right platform and region. Match the game version and edition to the system and territory you will use.
- Compare the listed contents. Identify which extras are included, which require separate downloads, and whether any entitlement is tied to an account.
- Verify the bonus offer. Check the seller, qualifying edition, deadline, delivery method, and any limited-stock language on the live listing.
- Read payment and cancellation terms. Confirm when your payment method will be charged and whether preload, download, shipment, or immediate bonus access changes your options.
- Save the evidence. Keep the listing and order confirmation so you can refer to the edition, bonus, and terms you agreed to.
- Recheck before release. Offers and payment systems can change; confirm the seller’s current terms and payment details before the charge or shipping date.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
