Start by identifying the exact AirPods Pro model
“AirPods Pro” alone is not enough to compare two listings. Apple’s identification guide distinguishes AirPods Pro 3, introduced in 2025; AirPods Pro 2 with a USB-C charging case, from 2023; AirPods Pro 2 with a Lightning charging case, from 2022; and AirPods Pro 1, from 2019. Understand what “refurbished” promises
Apple says its Certified Refurbished products are cleaned and inspected, complete full functional testing, and may receive genuine Apple replacement parts as needed. Apple’s general program page describes a one-year limited warranty and free shipping and returns. Its specific refurbished AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C) listing states a 14-day return policy. Apple says its Certified Refurbished program offers potential savings of up to 15%. That is a program-level maximum, not a guaranteed discount on AirPods Pro or a typical saving from another seller. Compare the actual current listing prices rather than assuming refurbished always costs less. [c001]
For any seller, ask what refurbishment means in practical terms: what was inspected or replaced, whether the battery was assessed, what accessories are included, and what remedy is available if something is wrong. Treat vague labels such as “like new” as condition descriptions, not proof of a particular testing process.

Compare the terms that determine your real protection
Before paying, read the policy for the exact seller and item condition. A marketplace platform’s name or a general program label does not, by itself, tell you who handles a return or what the guarantee covers.
- Returns: Record the deadline, how to start a return, whether return shipping is at your expense, and whether a refund or replacement is offered.
- Warranty: Check who provides it, how long it lasts, what defects are covered, and what exclusions apply.
- Battery condition: Look for a specific disclosure and a remedy if battery performance is poor. Apple’s standard limited warranty does not cover batteries that wear down through normal use, and Apple does not publish a universal AirPods battery-health percentage for used-unit buying decisions. Use the serial number as one check, not proof
Apple explains that an AirPods serial number can be found in Bluetooth settings, on the charging-case lid, and on original packaging or receipts. You can use it to check coverage or arrange service. Compare the available information and ask the seller to clarify any mismatch, but do not treat a successful serial lookup as conclusive proof that a unit is genuine. If you buy the pair, test it as soon as it arrives so you have time to act under the seller’s return terms. Compare the model information with the listing and check both earbuds and the case rather than assuming that successful pairing means every function works.

Compare the total value, not just the sticker price
Compare refurbished and discounted-new offers using the same factors. Include shipping and tax in the price, and weigh the warranty, return period, battery disclosure, included accessories, and seller’s remedy process. A lower price may be poor value if the return window is short or there is no meaningful battery assurance. Prices and inventory change, so use live listings and their current terms; there is no stable market-wide discount established here.

Know the warranty and service limits
Apple says its standard limited warranty covers manufacturing issues for one year from the purchase date, but excludes accidental damage and batteries that wear down through normal use. Apple also says repair and replacement parts are guaranteed for 90 days or the remaining warranty, whichever is longer. Service options and estimates vary with location, availability, coverage, and inspection. Check the coverage and service terms for the specific unit rather than assuming that a refurbished or discounted pair carries a full Apple warranty.
