If you are looking for a new Magic Mouse, that is the model to evaluate; a redesigned successor, its features, and a release date have not been confirmed in Apple’s published materials.
What Apple’s current Magic Mouse offers
The Magic Mouse (USB-C) is a wireless, rechargeable mouse that connects over Bluetooth. Its Multi-Touch surface supports gestures such as swiping between web pages and scrolling through documents. Apple describes the surface this way: “The Multi-Touch surface allows you to perform simple gestures such as swiping between web pages and scrolling through documents.”
The mouse has a USB-C charging port and comes with a woven USB-C Charge Cable. Apple lists its dimensions as 2.16 cm high, 5.71 cm wide, and 11.35 cm deep. Its listed weight is 0.099 kg (0.22 pounds); Apple notes that weight can vary by configuration and manufacturing process. The specifications do not identify it as “Magic Mouse 3.”
What changed—and what did not
The current model’s defining documented update is USB-C in place of the Lightning connector on the previous version. That connector change does not mean the charging arrangement has been redesigned: the port is still on the underside. Apple’s official materials do not confirm other changes or describe a successor beyond the Magic Mouse (USB-C).
#1 Best Overall
- Magic Mouse is wireless and rechargeable, with an optimised foot design that lets it glide smoothly across your desk.
- The Multi-Touch surface allows you to perform simple gestures such as swiping between web pages and scrolling through documents.
- The rechargeable battery will power your Magic Mouse for about a month or more between charges.
- It’s ready to go straight out of the box and pairs automatically with your Mac, and it includes a woven USB-C Charge Cable that lets you pair and charge by connecting to a USB-C port on your Mac.
Charging remains the practical drawback
Apple says the Magic Mouse cannot be used while it is charging. Because the port is on the underside, charging temporarily takes the mouse out of action rather than letting you keep using it as a wired mouse. If uninterrupted use while charging matters to you, account for that limitation before buying.
Apple estimates that the rechargeable battery lasts “about a month or more” between charges. This is Apple’s estimate, not an independent battery test; actual time between charges can depend on use. The mouse has no built-in charge-level indicator. On a Mac, Apple says to check its battery level through the Bluetooth controls. More charging guidance is in Apple’s battery recharge support article.

Compatibility and setup to check before buying
Apple lists macOS 15.1 or later for Mac and iPadOS 18.1 or later for iPad as minimum requirements. Its specifications also name compatible Mac and iPad families and Apple Vision Pro. Check Apple’s current compatible-device list for your exact device and software version; having USB-C alone does not establish compatibility.
Apple’s user guide for the previous Lightning Magic Mouse describes Mac pairing and configurable gestures, including secondary click, scroll direction, Smart Zoom, page and full-screen app swipes, and Mission Control. Those gesture examples and customization options may help explain the Magic Mouse experience, but the guide covers Lightning hardware, so its cable and port directions do not apply to the USB-C model. Consult the Magic Mouse guide with that distinction in mind.

Is a redesigned Magic Mouse 3 coming?
Apple’s published specifications and support information establish the Magic Mouse (USB-C), not a future “Magic Mouse 3.” They do not confirm a redesign, new features, or a launch date. Online discussion about what a next version should change—including the charging-port position—is a wishlist, not evidence of Apple’s plans. Treat any predicted release window or unannounced feature as speculation unless Apple confirms it.

Consider it if you want Apple’s current documented Magic Mouse with Bluetooth, a rechargeable battery, and a Multi-Touch surface for gestures. Weigh the underside charging port and inability to use it while charging against your work habits. If possible, try the shape in person: comfort depends on individual fit, and the available official specifications do not establish that it will suit every hand.

Apple’s US Store search result showed white and black finishes and listed the black USB-C model at $99; that price is market- and time-sensitive, so check the current US product listing or your local Apple Store before purchase. Look for the official “Magic Mouse (USB-C)” name and confirm device compatibility rather than relying on a listing that calls it “Magic Mouse 3.”
