Unplug your phone from the public USB port and test it with a known-working, compatible charger and an undamaged cable. If it still will not charge, check the cable, connections, and phone port; stop immediately if the phone shows a liquid, debris, or overheating warning. A failed public port alone does not establish why charging stopped.
First, check for a warning or visible damage
Disconnect the phone if it or the cable feels unusually hot, the phone displays a liquid or debris alert, or the cable or port looks damaged. Do not keep trying the public connection while a warning is present. For Pixel USB-C warnings, Google says to unplug the cable, check for moisture or debris without putting anything into the port or cable, and let moisture dry at room temperature. If the port appears burned, melted, or corroded, Google recommends service.
A charging failure does not by itself show that the public port is malicious or even that it is the cause. The source, cable, adapter, connection, phone port, or phone itself may be responsible; the checks below help narrow it down without assuming a diagnosis.
Test the phone with a known-working charging setup
Use a power source and accessories you trust, such as a working wall outlet and compatible charger, or a computer or battery pack. The exact accessory depends on your phone and connector. Apple recommends comparing with another power source, while Google’s Pixel guidance checks the outlet, cable, and adapter and suggests trying another cable or adapter.

- Fast Charging: Supports Power Delivery for up to 60W high-speed charging when paired with a USB-C charger
- Versatile Compatibility: Works with virtually all USB-C devices, including phones, tablets, and laptops
- High-Speed Data Transfer: Transfer files quickly with 480Mbps data transfer speeds

- Disconnect from the public port and connect the phone to the alternate source using an undamaged, compatible cable and adapter.
- Make sure the cable is firmly seated at both the phone and power-source ends.
- Allow the phone a little time to respond. If it remains unresponsive, use the phone maker’s model-specific restart and charging instructions rather than assuming one set of button steps applies to every phone.
If the alternate setup charges the phone, that points toward a problem with the public source or the cable or adapter used there, but it does not identify which one. If it does not, continue checking your own accessories and the phone.

Cable and adapter
Look for visible damage and try another compatible cable or adapter that you know works. Do not use damaged accessories. An accessory may be incompatible or faulty even if it fits the connector.

Phone port
Look for visible debris or damage in the phone’s charging port. Do not insert a pin, tool, or other object to clean or probe it. Do not put anything into them.” Follow your phone maker’s instructions if you see debris or receive a warning.

When to stop troubleshooting and get help
- Stop using the connection if the phone reports liquid, debris, or overheating; wait for the warning to clear according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Do not use a cable or adapter that looks damaged, or a port that appears burned, melted, corroded, or otherwise damaged.
- If a compatible, known-working charging setup still does not charge the phone, follow the manufacturer’s model-specific guidance and contact the phone maker or arrange service. Apple and Google both recommend support or service when their troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem.
