If a Fortnite chest will not open, check whether Sprint and Use share a control, then look for a current issue on Epic’s Fortnite Status or Community Issues pages. If loot has disappeared, report what happened in-game as soon as you can; Epic’s support guidance does not describe a way to restore chest loot or guarantee reimbursement.
Why won’t my Fortnite chest open?
Epic says custom controls that assign Sprint and Use to the same input can interfere with interactions. Its guidance addresses interaction problems generally, not chests specifically, but it is the most directly relevant official troubleshooting step.
- Open Fortnite’s settings and review your controls. If Sprint and Use share an input, separate them or choose Restore to default for key binds, as Epic recommends while it investigates the issue. Epic’s interaction support page explains the binding issue.
- Try interacting with the chest again. If it still does not respond, check Fortnite Status and Epic’s Community Issues forum for current reports or updates. These pages change over time, so rely on what they show now rather than an old status report.
- If the problem persists, submit an in-game bug report while the chest or interaction problem is still visible, if possible. Follow the reporting steps below.
What should I do if my Fortnite chest loot disappeared?
Check Fortnite Status and the Community Issues forum for a matching current issue, then report the incident in-game. Epic’s reviewed support pages do not explain how to recover loot that disappeared from a chest, confirm a chest-specific bug, or promise reimbursement. Avoid assuming the loot can be restored.
Report the missing loot in-game
- Open the game menu: press Esc on PC, Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox, + on Switch, or on mobile tap Menu and then the gear icon.
- Select the three-line menu, then choose Report and Submit a report.
- Choose A bug, select the closest reason, or choose Other, and submit the report. Include the relevant details and send it while the problem is visible if possible.

Use additional technical steps only if the problem continues or appears to involve a wider visual or game issue. They are general troubleshooting suggestions, not confirmed fixes for a chest or a way to recover missing loot.

On PC
- In the Epic Games Launcher, verify Fortnite’s game files and clear the launcher cache, following Epic’s visual-issues guidance.
- If the problem remains, Epic also suggests disabling background applications or performing a clean boot. Reinstalling the game is a further option if the issue continues.
On console
- Check for Fortnite updates and install available updates for your console.
- If the issue persists, Epic’s console troubleshooting guidance covers clearing the platform cache, reinstalling the game, and power cycling the console.
