Contact that provider using a number or sign-in route from an official site, bill, or known account message; ask it to check provisioning, outages, activation requirements, equipment compatibility, and billing. The right next step depends on your country and on whether this was a provider takeover, a network migration, or a change to your individual account.
1. Confirm who took over your account
Check the latest notice, email, or bill for the incoming provider and the effective transfer date. If the notice is unclear, use a contact method from the provider’s official website or a bill you already trust. Do not rely on an unexpected caller who asks for payment details or remote access to your device.
A sale or ownership change does not by itself establish that every customer account transferred in the same way. Ask the company named in the notice to verify that it is responsible for your account and service at your address.
2. Ask the provider to diagnose the interruption
When you reach the incoming provider, describe when service stopped and ask for a case or incident number. These questions help distinguish an account-transfer problem from a network outage or equipment issue:

- Is my account transfer complete, and which company is responsible for billing now?
- Is service active at my exact service address?
- Is there a known outage, open work order, or provisioning problem affecting my line?
- Do I need to activate the account, accept a plan, or complete another setup step?
- Should I continue using my existing modem or router, and has the provider confirmed it is compatible?
- What is the case number, and when should I expect the next update?
Ask the provider to confirm the account status and billing responsibility in writing, especially if a new bill arrives or the service is listed as inactive. If it identifies an in-home equipment fault, get its compatibility guidance before replacing hardware.
3. Troubleshoot without making the problem harder to fix
Follow the provider’s instructions for your service and equipment. Reboot only if the provider recommends it or it is a routine step that will not erase settings. Do not factory-reset provider-supplied equipment without instructions: it may remove configuration needed to reconnect. There is no provider-neutral troubleshooting sequence established for every ownership-transfer interruption.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
A provider-side outage or incomplete account provisioning generally needs the provider to investigate; buying a modem, router, hotspot, cable, or backup power unit is not a general fix for that kind of interruption. If the provider says the fault is in your home equipment, ask it to identify the fault and confirm compatible replacement options before spending money.
4. Keep a record of the interruption and contacts
Keep records in one place so you can explain what happened and separate service, billing, and equipment issues:

- The date and time the connection stopped, and whether it returned or changed.
- Provider notices, bills, and any message stating the transfer date or new account details.
- Each contact date, the representative or channel, case numbers, and any promised update or restoration time.
- The provider’s written explanation of account status, service activation, billing responsibility, and any charges.
Save the provider’s wording rather than relying on a verbal summary. These records are useful if you need to challenge a charge or ask a regulator to review the complaint.
5. Check the rules that apply in your country
United Kingdom: provider goes out of business and a successor takes over
Ofcom’s UK guidance is specifically about a broadband or landline provider going out of business and another company taking over; it should not be read as a guarantee for every acquisition or voluntary ownership change. For that situation, Ofcom says, “In most cases this should happen without any interruption to your service,” and that “In most cases, your existing contract should transfer to the new provider.” See Ofcom’s guidance on a broadband or landline provider going out of business, published 13 February 2026 and updated 15 September 2026.

Under that guidance, if the incoming provider changes the contract terms, you should have a right to leave without paying an early termination charge. If you simply want to switch for another reason, check whether your minimum contract period is still running; charges may apply if you leave before it ends. The guidance does not establish a general outage-credit amount.
United States: contact the provider, then consider an FCC complaint
The FCC recommends contacting your provider before filing a complaint. Its internet complaint issue descriptions include availability, billing, equipment such as modem or router problems, interference, and speed. If you decide to escalate, use the FCC Consumer Inquiries and Complaints Center and select the internet issue that best fits your problem.

For many billing or service complaints that the FCC serves on a provider, the provider has up to 30 days to respond. That is a response deadline, not a service-restoration deadline or a promise that the FCC will resolve the complaint. The FCC says it cannot resolve every individual complaint; see how the FCC handles complaints.
Other countries or a different kind of transfer
The guidance above does not establish rules for other jurisdictions, a wholesale network migration, or every transfer of an individual customer account. Check the notice, your contract, the provider, and the regulator that serves your country before assuming a particular continuity or exit right applies.

If the successor cannot restore service promptly, your practical choices may include continuing with it while it investigates, switching to another available ISP, arranging temporary mobile connectivity, or contacting your regulator. Compare the choices against your circumstances rather than assuming a particular product or provider will solve the problem:
- Is another service actually available at your exact address?
- How long does the current provider expect restoration to take, and how soon could an alternative be installed?
- What is the total price and are there setup or other fees?
- Does your existing contract have time remaining or potential exit charges?
- Would existing equipment work with another provider, and would any equipment need to be returned?
- Is the cause a network outage or an account/provisioning issue that a switch might not fix?
Get the reason for the interruption from the provider before deciding that new equipment or a new connection is necessary.
