If you downloaded a suspicious game leak but did not open it, that alone does not prove your device is infected: don’t run it, scan the file or download folder with security software, then quarantine or delete it if flagged. If you opened or installed it, stop entering passwords or other sensitive information on that device, disconnect it from the network if you suspect infection, and follow the steps below.

First, work out what happened

Situation What to do
You downloaded the file but did not open or run it Do not open it. Scan the file or its download location with your installed security software. Remove or quarantine it if flagged.
You opened or installed the file, or the device is acting strangely Treat the device as potentially compromised. Stop signing in or entering sensitive information, disconnect it from Wi-Fi or Ethernet if infection is suspected, and scan it.
A scan finds a threat, or symptoms persist Follow the security software’s removal steps. On Windows, run a full scan and, if unwanted software persists, consider an offline scan. Seek trusted technical help if the issue remains.

A download by itself is not evidence that malware ran. The risk changes if you execute the file, install it, or notice suspicious device behavior. The general guidance below is not a validated cleanup procedure for any particular game leak, and a clean scan cannot prove that every possible compromise is absent.

If you only downloaded the file

  1. Do not run it. Don’t open the installer, archive contents, or any file the download page tells you to launch.
  2. Scan it with security software already on your device. You can scan the file or the folder where it was downloaded.
  3. Quarantine or delete it if flagged. Follow your security software’s instructions. If it is not flagged but still seems suspicious, the safer choice is to delete it rather than test it by running it.

Do not turn off protection or add an antivirus exclusion just to launch the file. Microsoft explains that exclusions leave selected files or folders out of antivirus scanning; its guidance for unwanted software instead recommends scans and, when needed, an offline scan. Microsoft’s unwanted-software guidance

If you opened or installed it, or your device is behaving strangely

  1. Stop using the device for sensitive activity. Do not enter passwords, payment details, or other private information on it while you assess the problem.
  2. Disconnect it from the network if you suspect infection. Turn off Wi-Fi or unplug Ethernet. This can limit the device’s connection while you work through cleanup.
  3. Update legitimate security software and scan. On Windows, Microsoft recommends updating security intelligence and running a full scan. If unwanted software persists, an offline scan is another option. Microsoft’s scan guidance
  4. Get trusted help if the problem continues. Contact the device manufacturer or a technical support provider you already know and trust. The FTC recommends trusted help when malware cannot be removed or you need assistance. FTC malware guidance

These are general consumer steps, not a guarantee that a scan will detect or remove every threat in a particular fake leak. Persistent detections, unexplained behavior, or signs of unauthorized access call for more help rather than repeated attempts to run the file.
