If USDS appears to trade below $1, first verify the price and available liquidity on more than one market. Then check Sky’s current protocol dashboards and the exact conversion route you could use. Sky documents USDS–USDC and USDS–DAI conversion mechanisms, but neither a dollar target nor a token conversion guarantees that you can exit for $1 during a disruption.
What a USDS depeg would—and would not—mean
USDS is designed to target one U.S. dollar, but its market price is not guaranteed to remain at $1, and the target alone does not promise a fixed-value redemption. Sky’s legal risk disclosure says market pressure, loss of confidence, or protocol issues could cause USDS to lose its peg and holders to suffer losses: Sky Legal Documents: User Risks.
A displayed price below $1 is a reason to verify conditions, not proof by itself that every market or conversion route has failed. Conversely, a protocol dashboard showing collateral or a documented conversion mechanism is not an executable quote for your position.
What to check first
- Compare live market prices and depth. Check USDS on more than one market. Look at the amount available at each price, not only the last-traded price: a small trade may not represent the price available for a larger sale.
- Check Sky’s current protocol information. Sky points users to its financial dashboard for collateral and financial information and its onchain dashboard for module and token state. Use the live information rather than relying on figures from an older explainer: Sky.money and Sky Protocol dashboards.
- Inspect the exact conversion route before signing. Confirm the network, token contracts, supported assets, interface, current fees and limits, and whether the transaction can complete. Sky says access or conversions may depend on location or other criteria, and PSM parameters can impose governance-set limits: Sky Ecosystem: Products – USDS & sUSDS.
- Review the transaction details and risks. Confirm the asset you will receive, the quoted amount, and any transaction costs in the wallet or interface. Do not assume a submitted transaction will succeed or that a failed transaction or lost funds can be reversed.
Can you convert USDS to USDC or DAI?
Sky’s documentation describes conversion routes, but they are token-to-token mechanisms—not blanket guarantees of a $1 cash exit. Availability and terms should be checked at the time you act.

The USDS–USDC PSM is described as a smart-contract route with pre-minted liquidity, while its parameters can restrict conversion amounts based on collateral and governance-set risk controls. The June 12, 2026 details are a description of the route and its settings in that publication context, not a promise of present capacity or unchanged fees. Verify current terms in the interface and protocol information before relying on them.
Why a 1:1 token conversion is not the same as a dollar exit
A converter can exchange one token unit for another without establishing the market value of either token in dollars. Converting USDS to DAI gives you DAI; the amount you can sell for dollars depends on DAI’s price, the venue, available liquidity, and any off-ramp conditions. Similarly, a documented USDS–USDC route does not by itself prove that conversion is available to your wallet, for your amount, or at the moment you need it.

Sky describes USDS as supported by protocol mechanisms that include collateralized borrowing and liquidation: approved collateral is deposited to mint USDS, and a vault whose collateral falls below its liquidation threshold can be auctioned to repay debt. These mechanisms explain the design; they do not eliminate market, governance, operational, or smart-contract risks.
Why emergency shutdown is not a practical depeg plan
Do not treat Global Settlement or Emergency Shutdown as a routine holder exit. Sky’s security documentation calls Global Settlement deprecated and not intended for use, and says the shutdown threshold is very high: Sky Protocol Docs: Security Mechanisms. The documentation does not establish a guaranteed recovery mechanism that an individual holder can invoke during a depeg.

Risks to weigh before taking action
- Market risk: A token may trade below its target, and the price available for a large order can differ from a displayed or last-traded price.
- Route risk: A conversion may be unavailable, constrained by parameters, or different across networks and interfaces.
- Execution risk: Transactions can fail, and fees or other costs may apply. Sky warns of smart-contract vulnerabilities, market volatility, failed transactions, and possible lack of recourse.
- Asset risk: Receiving USDC or DAI changes which token you hold; it does not remove the risks or market conditions attached to that asset.
