If the GSTAT portal appears to reject your appeal, first check whether it issued a provisional acknowledgement with a 16-digit filing number. If it did, check the registered email and dashboard’s Re-filing tab for a scrutiny defect. If two records appear, do not submit another appeal just to clear the display: preserve the details and ask GSTAT support to confirm which record is active.
First determine whether the appeal was submitted
A portal error, a scrutiny defect and a duplicate listing are different problems, and the next step depends on which one you have. The GSTAT e-filing manual says a successful submission generates a receipt with a 16-digit filing number and a provisional acknowledgement. The final acknowledgement comes later, after successful scrutiny and case registration. GSTAT portal Official appeal manual
- You have a receipt and filing number: the submission completed provisionally. Check for a defect notice or case-status update; do not treat the provisional acknowledgement as final registration.
- You have no receipt or filing number: do not assume the appeal was filed. Note the exact time, screen, and error message where the process stopped, and save a screenshot.
Keep the receipt and filing number with any later support correspondence.
Check for a scrutiny defect
GSTAT says defect notifications are sent to the registered email address and mobile number, and defects can also be inspected from the dashboard’s Re-filing tab. Check both channels, including spam or junk folders, and make sure you are looking at the account used for the filing. GSTAT e-filing FAQ

Correct a notified defect through Re-filing
If the portal has generated a defect notice, follow the specified correction rather than starting a fresh appeal. The manual’s workflow is:
- Sign in and open Appellant Corner → Re-filing.
- Select the relevant filing and choose View Defect. Read the generated defect PDF to identify what scrutiny requires.
- Correct the information or document identified in the notice and upload the corrected material.
- Review the revised filing preview, then submit it through the portal.
- Save the new receipt and filing details.
Use the defect notice as the guide to what must be corrected. Re-filing is not a substitute for meeting the underlying scrutiny requirement. Official application re-filing manual

If the portal shows duplicate cases
The official FAQ and manuals reviewed describe defect re-filing and technical issue reporting, but do not set out a general procedure to merge, delete or withdraw duplicate records. Treat the display as unresolved until GSTAT confirms the status; do not submit yet another appeal solely to remove an apparent duplicate.

- Record each ARN/CRN and every filing or case number shown. Keep submission receipts and any payment reference.
- Contact GSTAT through Help Center → Report an Issue or call 1800-103-4782. Ask which record is live and what action, if any, the Tribunal requires.
- Keep the issue or ticket number and the response with your filing records.
Preserving both records and asking support to reconcile them is a cautious troubleshooting step, not a published rule that GSTAT will merge or delete a case. GSTAT Help Center and contact information

For an unexplained error, payment problem or failed upload
Report the technical problem
Use the Help Center’s Report an Issue route or call GSTAT at 1800-103-4782. The portal also describes e-Seva Kendra assistance for online filing. Include the exact error, date and time, filing reference, screenshots, and transaction ID if payment is involved. Save the ticket number and any confirmation. GSTAT Help Center
Check payment status before paying again
The GSTAT FAQ distinguishes statuses such as Fail, Pending, Expired, Status Unknown/Abort, Incomplete and Security Error. A Pending status may mean you were redirected to a bank or card provider; the account may or may not have been debited. The FAQ says an item pending or booked for more than seven calendar days is marked expired. If your account was debited but the portal shows failure, the FAQ says the gateway status may not have arrived within 30 minutes and the status may later become “Refund Settled” after the payment aggregator processes a refund. Reduce or split a PDF that will not upload
GSTAT’s public FAQ pages give conflicting file-size advice: one advises against scanned uploads over 20 MB at 300 dpi or less, while another recommends 50 MB. They do not establish one universal limit. Check the current upload control and applicable manual. If a file fails, reduce its size or split it into volumes while keeping every page legible; contact portal support if the upload still fails. GSTAT portal FAQ and advisories
Check eligibility and the deadline separately
GSTAT says it hears appeals under section 112 against orders of GST appellate or revisional authorities under sections 107 or 108, and that appeals are filed electronically. Its homepage also carries a disclaimer about applicable orders and the historical order dates and forms eligible in the portal. An ineligible ARN/CRN or filing-window message may therefore concern portal eligibility, not a technical failure. As of 4 October 2026, the homepage notice reviewed stated that the section 112 appeal deadline had been extended to 31 July 2026 and described an intent-to-file route by that date for people facing registration or e-filing problems. That date has passed; the public pages reviewed do not establish a later extension. Do not rely on that route as currently open. Check the latest applicable GSTAT order or notification and promptly seek case-specific advice from a qualified tax lawyer or other appropriate professional about limitation. GSTAT notices
