First, find out whether the transfer is still being processed by the sending exchange, is waiting for blockchain confirmations, or has reached the receiving exchange but has not been credited. Check the sender’s withdrawal record for its exact status and a transaction ID (TxID). If a TxID is available, inspect it on the correct network’s blockchain explorer; then compare its confirmation count with the receiving exchange’s requirement for that asset.
Understand where the transfer is delayed
A crypto transfer can pass through three separate stages: the sending exchange processes a withdrawal, the transaction is broadcast and confirmed on the blockchain, and the receiving exchange credits the deposit under its own rules. A sender’s “Success” or “Completed” status does not by itself prove that the receiving account has been credited.
- Exchange processing: The sender may still be performing internal checks or handling the withdrawal through a payment gateway.
- Blockchain processing: The transaction has been broadcast but is pending, has too few confirmations, or has been rejected.
- Receiving exchange credit: The transaction may be confirmed, but the receiving platform may still need more confirmations or may require a review of the deposit details or account.
Check the withdrawal record and TxID
Open the sending exchange’s withdrawal or transaction history. Record the exact status and look for a TxID, also called a transaction hash. Status labels differ by platform, so follow the explanation in that exchange’s own help center rather than assuming the label means the same thing everywhere.
For example, Kraken lists Initiated, Pending, Sending, Success, On hold, and Failed. Kraken describes Initiated and Pending as internal processing stages; Sending means the transaction has been broadcast and is waiting for a blockchain confirmation. Its Classic withdrawal guide estimates up to 10 minutes for the Initiated and Pending stages, but says total time also depends on internal processing and the destination’s confirmation requirements. That estimate applies to Kraken’s stated workflow, not to other exchanges or as a guarantee.

If there is no TxID
The withdrawal may not have been broadcast yet. Check the sending exchange’s status page, withdrawal details, and official help guidance. If the status is On hold or Failed, read any displayed error and contact the sender through its official support channel. A missing TxID is not enough to determine the cause or predict how long the withdrawal will take.
If a TxID is available
Open a blockchain explorer for the network the sender used and search for the TxID. Check whether the transaction is pending, confirmed, or rejected, and note its confirmation count. Coinbase and Binance both direct users to inspect transaction details or the TxID to check on-chain status: see Coinbase’s pending-transaction guidance and Binance’s withdrawal-status guidance.

For a missing deposit, check the receiving exchange’s requirements
In the receiving account, open the deposit history and check for a pending entry, an alert, or a request for more information. Compare the transaction details with the deposit instructions that applied when you made the transfer.
- Confirm that the asset and network sent are supported by the receiving exchange.
- Check that the destination address matches the receiving exchange’s deposit address for that asset and network.
- For assets that require one, verify that the memo, tag, or other destination identifier was included and correct.
- Check whether the receiving exchange has an asset-specific confirmation threshold and whether the transaction has reached it.
Confirmation requirements vary by asset, network, and exchange. Coinbase Exchange says deposits remain Pending until the required confirmations accrue and lists requirements by currency in its deposit and pending-transaction guidance. Kraken distinguishes Credited, when trading may be available but withdrawals are not, from Successful, when withdrawals are available; see its cryptocurrency deposit status definitions. Check the receiving platform’s current instructions for the particular asset rather than relying on a general confirmation count.

Sending an unsupported asset or using an unsupported network can prevent automatic crediting. Coinbase says recovery options may depend on the case; see its unsupported-crypto recovery guidance. Do not assume that a transfer can be recovered or credited automatically.
Contact the right exchange when the transaction is confirmed
If the explorer shows the transaction is confirmed but the receiving account still has no deposit, contact the receiving exchange through its official support flow. Include the TxID, asset, network, amount, destination address, and a link or screenshot of the explorer result. Binance’s guidance directs users to the destination platform when funds are confirmed on the blockchain but have not been credited by the receiving wallet.

If the transaction is not on-chain because the sender has not issued a TxID, or the sender marks it On hold or Failed, start with the sending exchange instead. This distinction helps route the issue to the platform that can investigate that stage of the transfer.

- The transaction has not yet reached the receiving exchange’s required number of confirmations.
- An exchange node has temporarily lost synchronization.
- A transaction was rejected after a stale block.
- An unconfirmed transaction has a low fee.
Coinbase describes some sync-related delays as usually under an hour, but that is specific to the class of delays covered by its guidance, not a general waiting-time estimate for deposits. The TxID, network, and each platform’s status are needed to narrow down what is happening.
Be cautious about cancellation
Do not assume a withdrawal can be reversed once it has been broadcast. Kraken says a cancellation request is available only while a withdrawal is Initiated or Pending, and a request made while Pending is not guaranteed. Other exchanges may use different rules; check the sending platform’s current policy and status before requesting cancellation.
