Do not send the payment again until you know whether the original transaction can still be mined. The latest mainnet upgrade, NU6.3 (Ironwood), activated on July 28, 2026, at block height 3,428,143; a pending label alone does not show whether a transaction was mined, remains live, or expired.
Start with the wallet and transaction status
- Update the wallet safely. Install its latest version through the wallet’s official app-store listing or release channel. Zcash’s NU6.3 upgrade page tells users to update their Zcash apps and software. If a third-party wallet displays an upgrade error, contact that wallet’s developer, as advised in Zcash’s Network Upgrade Guide.
- Let the wallet sync. Wait for it to catch up with the network before relying on its displayed balance or transaction status. A wallet that has not synchronized may show incomplete or stale information.
- Find the TXID. Look in the wallet’s sent-transaction history. If the payment began as an exchange withdrawal, check the withdrawal record for its TXID. Check that ID in a Zcash explorer or through the wallet’s status tools.
- Check the transaction’s state before acting. Determine whether the TXID appears in a block, whether the transaction is still eligible for mining, or whether the wallet reports it expired. A missing explorer result does not, by itself, prove that the transaction expired; explorer data may not show every unconfirmed transaction. A September 2026 ZecZcash troubleshooting guide also recommends checking transaction status rather than treating the wallet label as definitive.
Zcash’s Network Upgrade Guide warns that a transaction sent just before an upgrade is likely not to make it onto the chain. That possibility is a reason to verify the TXID and wallet status—not to assume the funds are lost or to send a duplicate immediately.
Do not create a duplicate while the first transaction may still confirm
If the original transaction is still live, sending the same payment again can result in both transactions confirming. Wait until the wallet establishes that the first transaction is no longer eligible for mining or reports it expired, and confirm the balance and status before creating a replacement.
Understand Zcash transaction expiry
Zcash transactions carry an expiry height. Under ZIP 203, the default before NU7 is 40 blocks. At the then-current target spacing of 75 seconds, that is approximately 50 minutes; it is a block-based limit, so the elapsed time can vary.

ZIP 203 incorporates ZIP 218’s recommended 120-block default at a 25-second target spacing after NU7, also approximately 50 minutes. These are protocol defaults tied to upgrade timing, not a promise that every wallet will display a countdown or that every pending transaction will resolve within that wall-clock interval. Check the specific wallet’s status and expiry information.
Once a transaction passes its expiry height, ZIP 203 says it cannot be mined and is removed from nodes’ mempools. If the wallet confirms the transaction expired, follow that wallet’s instructions to send again, first checking the available balance and ensuring the replacement uses the intended recipient and amount.

Check whether your wallet supports NU6.3 and the transaction path
NU6.3 introduced the Ironwood shielded pool. Zcash’s NU6.3 documentation says Orchard is now restricted, and funds exiting Orchard must pass through the turnstile into Ironwood. Wallet support can depend on the app version, the pool holding the funds, and the transaction path. An app that is out of date or does not support the relevant path may need wallet-specific troubleshooting; that does not mean every pending transaction has the same cause.
- Confirm the wallet version and whether its developer documents NU6.3 support.
- Check which pool or transaction path is involved, if the wallet exposes that information.
- If the wallet shows an upgrade, pool, or transaction-construction error, share the error text and TXID with the wallet’s official support channel—but not your recovery credentials.
Do not use legacy zcashd instructions as a universal fix
The Zcash zcashd deprecation notice says zcashd halted on July 18, 2026, at block height 3,417,100, and will not support NU6.3. It is therefore not a current solution for diagnosing transactions on the upgraded network. The notice points users who do not need the zcashd wallet to Zebra; users dependent on zcashd wallet data are directed to test migration to Zallet. Follow the project’s current migration guidance for your situation rather than applying old zcashd rescan commands to an unrelated wallet.

Protect your recovery credentials while seeking help
Never give a seed phrase or private key to anyone claiming to provide support, and be wary of unsolicited messages offering to fix the transaction. A Zcash Community Forum post from December 16, 2024, gives the general warning: “Do not share your seed phrase with anyone!” Its historical wallet-compatibility information should not be treated as current compatibility guidance.
For support, use the wallet developer’s official contact route and provide non-secret diagnostic details such as the app version, error text, TXID, and whether the wallet has finished syncing. A legitimate transaction-status check does not require handing over your recovery phrase.
