If a Commander deck you’re considering gets cheaper after a reprint, buy it when the current price fits your budget and you want to play it—not because you expect it to keep falling or rebound. Compare the exact deck’s current listings with recent completed sales. If you only want a few cards, compare those singles, including shipping and condition, with the sealed deck price. If you already own the deck, decide whether its play value is still worth more to you than the amount you could actually receive by selling it.
First decide what you want from the deck
A ready-to-play Commander deck can be worth buying for the games you’ll play, even if its resale value has declined. Wizards describes Commander decks as 100-card products; Commander uses one copy of each card except basic lands. The official Reality Fracture Buyer’s Guide describes its decks as ready to play. Treat the purchase first as a choice about play and budget, rather than assuming the cards add up to a guaranteed resale value.
Wizards says it reprints cards because it believes they make for enjoyable gameplay and players should have an opportunity to play with them. Its reprint policy says, “Any card that isn’t on the reserved list may be reprinted.” It also says that a card’s absence from the Reserved List does not mean there are plans to reprint it. That policy explains why reprints happen; it does not predict the next price move for a particular deck.
Compare asking prices with completed sales
A listing tells you what a seller is asking, not what a buyer paid. TCGplayer distinguishes Market Price, based on recent completed sales, from Listed Median, based on current listings. Those measures can differ substantially, so neither a high listing nor a single tracker figure proves what you can sell the deck for.

For the exact product, compare recent completed sales with current listings and account for condition, version, and shipping. Sale data is marketplace-specific and reflects a limited set of transactions; it is not a guaranteed offer from a local store or another marketplace. If you own the deck and are considering selling, compare those sales with an actual buy offer and the net amount you would receive.
Compare the sealed deck with the singles you want
If you want only a handful of cards, price those specific singles rather than assuming the whole deck is the best deal. Add shipping and account for each card’s condition and version, then compare that total with the sealed deck’s price. The deck may make sense if you want to play most of it; buying singles may be more practical if only a few cards matter to you.

Use MSRP as a release-specific reference
MSRP is not a required retail price or a price floor. In its October 25, 2024 announcement, Wizards listed an MSRP of $44.99 for an Aetherdrift Commander deck and noted that retailers can set their own prices. That is a dated, product-specific suggested price—not a current price for every deck or evidence that a deck will appreciate. See the Aetherdrift product announcement for that release’s details.

Make the decision for the exact deck
- Buying to play: Buy when the current price is within budget and the deck is worth that amount to you as a ready-to-play product.
- Buying for a few cards: Compare the singles you actually want, with shipping and condition considered, against the sealed deck price.
- Already own it: Keep it if you still value playing or owning it. Sell only if you no longer want it and the net offer is worth giving up the deck.
- Unsure whether to wait: Use current listings and completed sales for the exact product, but do not treat a recent drop as proof of another decline or a recovery.
