If a ChatGPT ad is simply unwanted, open its three-dot menu and choose Hide ad. If it seems misleading, unsafe, inappropriate, or against policy, choose Report ad to hide it and flag it for review. To see less tailored advertising, adjust Ad Controls; to use ChatGPT without ads, check the options available for your account and region.
Hide an irrelevant or disruptive ad
For an ad you do not want to see—because it is irrelevant, repetitive, or otherwise unwelcome—open the ad’s three-dot menu and select Hide ad. OpenAI also provides ways to share feedback and view information about why an ad appeared. Hiding dismisses that ad; OpenAI does not promise that it will prevent similar ads from appearing later. Report an ad that may be misleading or inappropriate
Use the report control if an ad appears misleading, unsafe, inappropriate, or inconsistent with OpenAI’s ad policies. Open the ad’s three-dot menu and select Report ad. OpenAI says this hides the ad and sends it to its team for review; reporting flags a concern, but does not guarantee a particular review outcome or response time.
Reporting on the web
- Open the ad’s three-dot menu and choose Report this ad.
- Select the reason that best describes the problem.
- Add details if you want to explain the concern, then submit the report.

Change ad personalization
If you would rather see less tailored ads, open Settings → Ad Controls and turn off personalization if the setting is available for your account. This changes how ads are selected; it does not remove them. Ads may still be selected using the current chat thread. OpenAI also lists controls for dismissing ads and sharing feedback, seeing why an ad was shown, and clearing ads data.
Ad Controls are limited to eligible Free and Go users in regions where ads are available or expected soon. OpenAI says personalized ads are not initially available in the EEA or Switzerland. If the controls are missing in the mobile app, update the app and check again. Availability and labels may change as the ads experience rolls out.

Choose an ad-free option if you do not want ads
OpenAI describes an Ads-Free option for eligible Free users. It comes with lower usage limits and reduced access to some tools compared with the ad-supported Free experience. OpenAI also describes Plus and Pro as paid plans without ads. Options depend on account eligibility and region, so check the plans and controls shown in your ChatGPT account.

Does an ad affect ChatGPT’s answer?
OpenAI says ads appear below responses, are labeled as sponsored, and are visually separate from ChatGPT’s answer. The company says ads do not influence answers, and an ad appearing in ChatGPT does not mean OpenAI endorses or recommends its advertiser. These distinctions are explained in the Ads in ChatGPT Help Center article.
