Before buying an ultra-thin phone, decide whether its slimmer, lighter body is worth the trade-offs you may accept in battery endurance, camera flexibility, and accessories. Compare measured thickness and weight alongside how you use a phone: your preferred screen size, daily workload, charging access, camera needs, operating system, and local price and support.
How thin and light is the phone in everyday terms?
Compare thickness and weight together rather than treating a thinness figure as a complete measure of comfort. Apple lists the iPhone Air at 5.64 mm thick and 165 g; Samsung announced the Galaxy S25 Edge at 5.8 mm and 163 g. The iPhone Air has a 6.5-inch display, while the Galaxy S25 Edge has a 6.7-inch display.
Those measurements make the trade-off easier to picture, but they do not prove which phone will feel better in your hand or pocket. Width, screen size, balance, and the shape of the camera area also matter. A camera projection can affect how slim the phone feels when it rests on a table or sits in a pocket. If possible, handle the exact model, including the case you expect to use.
Will the battery last through your day?
Battery capacity and battery runtime are different kinds of evidence. A capacity figure in mAh does not, by itself, tell you how many hours a phone will last: screen, network conditions, settings, and workload all matter.

| Evidence | iPhone Air | Galaxy S25 Edge |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer battery information | Apple estimates up to 27 hours of video playback. This is a manufacturer playback estimate, not a promise for mixed everyday use. (Apple technical specifications) | Samsung lists 3,900 mAh typical capacity and a rated minimum of 3,786 mAh. Samsung says actual life varies with network, usage, and other factors. (Samsung announcement) |
| Independent runtime test | 12 hours 2 minutes | 11 hours 48 minutes |
The independent figures are from Tom’s Guide’s continuous web-surfing test at 150 nits, accessed October 4, 2026. They describe that publication’s test, not guaranteed daily runtime. They should not be compared directly with Apple’s video-playback estimate because the methods differ. (Tom’s Guide comparison)
Consider how often you can charge, whether you rely on navigation, mobile data, gaming, or long video sessions, and whether an external battery is acceptable. Apple lists up to 40 hours of video playback with its iPhone Air MagSafe Battery, versus up to 27 hours without it. In Tom’s Guide’s same web-surfing test, the iPhone Air with that battery lasted 17 hours 15 minutes versus 12 hours 2 minutes without it. These are separate measurement methods; the accessory also means carrying another item. (Apple specifications; Tom’s Guide comparison)
Does the camera setup match the pictures you take?
Look at the available lenses and how you use them, not just the megapixel totals. The Galaxy S25 Edge has a 200 MP wide rear camera and a 12 MP ultra-wide rear camera. The iPhone Air has a single 48 MP rear camera system; Apple specifies 2x optical-quality zoom. Samsung’s extra ultra-wide camera gives it a different kind of framing flexibility, while a single-camera setup may be sufficient if most of your pictures use the main view.

Tom’s Guide’s scene-by-scene assessment did not find a universal winner and noted Samsung’s additional ultra-wide and macro flexibility. A specification list cannot establish which phone produces the look you prefer. Compare sample photos of the subjects you care about—such as people, moving subjects, landscapes, or close-ups—and check whether you need a dedicated ultra-wide or telephoto camera. (Tom’s Guide comparison; Apple specifications; Samsung announcement)
What do the durability ratings actually cover?
Both manufacturers list IP68 resistance, but a rating is not a guarantee against every kind of water exposure or impact. Samsung says the Galaxy S25 Edge’s resistance is based on laboratory testing and may diminish over time. Apple lists IP68 for the iPhone Air under its stated conditions. Check each manufacturer’s terms for the conditions attached to its rating rather than assuming the labels mean identical protection. (Samsung announcement; Apple specifications)
Materials are another part of the decision, not a substitute for a case or careful handling. Samsung specifies a titanium frame and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 front; Apple specifies a titanium design and Ceramic Shield front and back. If you plan to use a protective case, account for the extra bulk: it changes the size benefit you are buying the phone for.

Will its performance and platform suit your workload?
The official specifications identify Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy in the S25 Edge and A19 Pro in the iPhone Air. A processor name alone does not establish which phone is better for your particular tasks. Consider demanding games, long video processing sessions, and the apps you rely on; sustained workloads can matter as much as short bursts of speed. Tom’s Guide reports varying benchmark and sustained-stress results, which are that publication’s tests rather than a universal measure of everyday performance. (Samsung announcement; Apple specifications; Tom’s Guide comparison)
Choose the operating system and ecosystem that fit your existing devices, services, and preferences. Also check the storage configuration you need and the manufacturer’s current software-support terms for the exact model and market; the published comparisons do not establish a universal best choice on those points.
How do the charging details and alternatives compare?
Charging speed claims have conditions too. Samsung’s May 13, 2025 announcement says the Galaxy S25 Edge reaches about 55% in around 30 minutes with a 25 W adapter, sold separately. Apple lists up to 50% in 30 minutes for the iPhone Air with a 20 W-or-higher adapter and USB-C cable, or a 30 W-or-higher adapter paired with a MagSafe Charger; those accessories are sold separately. The figures use different stated setups, so do not treat them as a direct head-to-head charging test. (Samsung announcement; Apple specifications)

If endurance is your main concern, compare the cost and inconvenience of a compatible external battery with choosing a different phone. If protection or magnetic accessories matter, check exact case compatibility and remember that a case or battery accessory adds bulk.
What alternatives and local details should you check?
Do not assume that a phone sold in one country is available or suitable in another. Verify the precise model, local price, carrier compatibility, storage options, warranty and support terms, and current retail availability before buying.
Motorola Edge 70 is another thin-phone option discussed by Tom’s Guide in an article dated February 25, 2026. That comparison covers its 4,800 mAh battery, three 50 MP cameras, chipset, update support, and regional availability; it says the model was not sold in the U.S. when the article was written. Availability and product lineups can change, so confirm the current status in your country rather than relying on that dated regional detail. (Tom’s Guide Motorola comparison)

Quick Recap
A practical buying checklist
- Compare published thickness and weight, then account for the camera area, display size, and the case you intend to use.
- Match battery evidence to your routine: distinguish manufacturer playback estimates from independent tests and check the test method.
- Choose camera flexibility based on the lenses and types of shots you actually use, not megapixels alone.
- Read water-resistance terms and material specifications without treating them as protection from every accident.
- Confirm your preferred platform, storage, carrier compatibility, local price, availability, and support terms for the exact model.
