For the fullest S22 Ultra functionality, look for Samsung S Pen model EJ-PS908B and test the specific pen on the phone before buying. Check writing and Air Actions separately: a pen can write on the screen without supporting Bluetooth remote features.
Confirm the model before judging the pen
Samsung identifies model EJ-PS908B as the Galaxy S22 Ultra S Pen in its S Pen Compatibility Overview. Ask the seller to show the packaging or model marking if available, and compare it with that reference. A listing description or seller assurance is not proof that the individual item is genuine or in working condition.
Other Samsung S Pens are not automatically equivalent. Samsung says some Note and Tab S Pens can write on the S22 Ultra but do not provide the same features; the Z Fold3 S Pen is unsupported. S Pen Pro support depends on using S Pen mode. Check the exact model and intended functions rather than relying on the S Pen name alone. Samsung’s S22 Ultra support guidance describes these feature differences.

- Look over the pen body for cracks, bends, or other visible damage.
- Inspect the tip for obvious damage or unusual wear.
- Ask to test the exact pen being offered, not just another pen of the same model.
These are practical checks of the particular used item, not a Samsung condition grading standard. Compatibility information cannot establish a seller’s item’s condition or whether a listing is authentic.

Test writing on the S22 Ultra
- Insert the pen into the S22 Ultra and remove it for use.
- Write or draw in several areas of the screen, including near the edges.
- Watch for strokes appearing consistently as the tip moves. If a section does not respond, repeat the test and ask to check the screen and pen before buying.
A successful writing test confirms only that basic screen input works during the demonstration. It does not show that the pen’s Bluetooth connection or remote functions work.
Test Air Actions separately if you need them
The S22 Ultra S Pen supports Air Actions, which use Bluetooth and require the pen to be charged. Samsung explicitly states that “Air Actions require the S Pen to be charged.” Samsung’s support article explains the phone’s S Pen and Air Actions features.

- Insert the pen into the phone so it can charge and connect.
- Test the pen button and a supported remote action on the phone.
- If remote functions fail, allow for charging and retry before deciding that the feature is defective.
Do not infer Air Actions support from another pen’s ability to write. This distinction matters particularly with Note and Tab pens, which may offer writing but limited S22 Ultra functionality.
If the pen will not connect
Check that it has had an opportunity to charge, then try Samsung’s S Pen connection and reset instructions. Samsung’s process requires keeping the pen inserted during the reset and connection steps. Support menus and instructions may vary by region. If it still will not connect after charging and reset, treat Air Actions as unverified and factor that into the purchase decision.
