Use the Nebraska Broadband Map to identify options, then verify availability and the final offer directly with each provider.
How do I compare internet providers at my Nebraska address?
Start with the precise service address, not a city or ZIP code. Availability can vary from one street or building to another. Search the address on the Nebraska Broadband Map, then contact each provider you are considering to confirm it can serve that address and what plans it can actually install.
The map’s colors classify the fastest reported terrestrial broadband tier at a location. Nebraska’s current map guidance defines blue as at least 100 Mbps download and 100 Mbps upload; green as between 100/25 and 100/100; yellow as between 25/3 and 100/20; and red as 25/3 Mbps or slower. Those are map thresholds, not a promise that a particular plan is available or that you will receive those speeds inside your home.
If the FCC National Broadband Map shows an incorrect location or provider listing, the Nebraska Broadband Office explains how to inspect the location and submit a challenge through the FCC map challenge process. A map listing is a useful starting point; the provider must still confirm serviceability for your order.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
What should I compare in each provider’s offer?
Review the provider’s broadband label for each plan, and compare the full offer rather than the headline download speed. The FCC label framework is intended to make important service and price details easier to compare. The FCC broadband labels guidance describes what consumers can find there.
| Compare | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Price over time | Standalone monthly price, promotional price and how long it lasts, the price after the promotion, recurring fees, taxes, and any bundle or eligibility conditions. |
| Performance | Disclosed download and upload performance, and latency where available. Consider whether those characteristics suit the household’s uses; advertised speed alone does not capture every aspect of service. |
| Data | Monthly data allowance, whether the plan has a limit, and what happens if you exceed it, including any overage terms. |
| Equipment and setup | Equipment rental or other equipment fees, installation charges, other one-time charges, and whether your current modem or router is supported. |
| Commitment | Contract length, any early termination fee, and conditions attached to the price or offer. |
| Practical service details | Connection technology, installation lead time, customer-support options, and how the provider handles outages. |
Ask the prospective provider to confirm the total monthly price after discounts expire, the equipment it requires, and the installation date for your exact address. A customer-owned Wi-Fi router may not replace a required modem or gateway; ask whether your specific equipment is permitted and compatible before relying on it.

- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
What should I check before I cancel my current internet service?
Read your existing provider’s agreement and contact it to confirm the cancellation process. Ask whether you have a remaining contract term or early termination fee, when service will end, what your final bill may include, and when and how to return rented equipment. Keep the cancellation confirmation and any equipment-return receipt.
Do not assume that placing an order with the new provider will cancel the old account. Confirm separately with both companies what actions are required. If losing internet access would be disruptive, arrange for the new connection to activate before asking the current provider to end service, allowing for installation lead time. This can reduce the chance of a gap, but it is not a guarantee of a particular activation date.

Can I keep a Lifeline or NTAP discount when I switch?
If you rely on a low-income telephone or internet discount, ask the new provider whether it participates before switching and what enrollment steps apply. Nebraska’s Telephone Assistance Program (NTAP) supplements federal Lifeline for qualifying residents, but participation is not universal among telephone and internet companies. The Nebraska Public Service Commission advises consumers to contact their provider or the PSC to find an authorized provider; see its NTAP information. Do not assume a benefit automatically transfers to a new account.

Nebraska Revised Statutes 86-205 and 86-206 address authorized changes and written confirmation for specified basic local exchange and intra- or inter-LATA interexchange telephone services. Section 86-206 requires written confirmation within 30 days for the covered service changes. These provisions are not a general rule for canceling or switching standalone broadband internet, so check the actual providers’ terms for broadband order timing and cancellation.
