Before buying, get confirmation for the exact India-market SKU and find out how its payment flow works.
What is confirmed about UPI smart glasses?
NPCI’s 8 October 2025 announcement described an IoT Payments framework in which user-authorized connected devices can initiate UPI payments based on contextual triggers, routines, voice or text instructions, within user-defined limits. It explicitly included smart glasses among possible devices. That establishes smart glasses as an announced use case—not that a particular pair is on sale or ready to make payments. NPCI also posted that it demonstrated UPI Smart Glasses payments at GFF 2025, including QR scanning and voice authentication. The post does not name a glasses model, UPI app, bank partner, enrollment process, transaction limits, complete authentication flow or availability date. What to verify before you buy
1. Exact model and India-market SKU
Ask the manufacturer or seller whether the exact model number and SKU being offered in India supports UPI payments now. Ask for the supported payment feature and its current availability—not merely whether the glasses have a camera, AI, voice control or NFC. NPCI’s cited materials do not include a compatible-model list, so a broad product description is not enough to establish UPI support.

2. The payment route
Find out what the glasses actually do in a transaction. Do they scan a merchant’s UPI QR code? Do they start a payment through a paired phone? Is the flow based on NFC, and does it use a UPI app? Ask the seller to describe the steps from choosing a merchant to completing payment.
UPI Tap & Pay is a separate, documented route: NPCI says users need an NFC-capable phone or device and the Tap & Pay option in their UPI app. The described sequence opens the app, enters the amount and taps the device on the receiver’s UPI Smart NFC QR/tag. This does not establish that NFC in a pair of glasses will work with Tap & Pay. Confirm that the glasses, app and receiving tag are all supported. See NPCI’s UPI Tap & Pay overview.

3. App, phone and bank compatibility
Ask which UPI app, phone operating system and bank account work with the glasses, and whether support is limited to particular banks or regions. Confirm whether the phone must be nearby, connected to the glasses and online for scanning, approval or payment. NPCI’s general app guidance describes phone-based UPI apps; it does not identify integrations for smart glasses. Review NPCI’s UPI overview.
4. What you review and how you authorize payment
Before approving a transaction, the wearer should be able to check the payee and amount clearly, whether on the glasses, through audio, or on a paired phone. Ask exactly where that information appears and what action approves the payment. Also ask how PIN entry works privately if the flow requires it.

NPCI explains that a UPI PIN authenticates a transaction and authorizes bank transactions; it should not be shared. A demonstration described as using “voice authentication” does not establish that voice alone authorizes a bank payment or replaces the PIN. See the BHIM product overview and NPCI’s UPI FAQs.
5. Privacy and everyday use
Because smart glasses can include cameras and microphones, check the exact SKU for recording indicators and controls to mute or disable capture. Separately confirm prescription-lens availability, comfort, battery life, warranty and repair support. The cited UPI information does not establish these product details; ask the manufacturer or seller rather than assuming them.

6. A phone-based fallback
Check that you can still pay through your phone if the glasses run out of battery, disconnect or do not support the payment at a particular merchant. NPCI’s BHIM overview describes the familiar phone-app route: scan a QR code and authenticate with a UPI PIN. See NPCI’s BHIM overview.

Questions to ask the seller
- Does this exact India-market SKU support UPI payments now? Can you show where that feature is documented?
- Which payment route does it use: QR scanning, a paired phone, NFC, or another method?
- Which UPI app, phone operating system and banks are supported, and must the phone be nearby and online?
- How do I check the payee and amount, approve the transaction and enter a PIN securely?
- What camera and microphone indicators and privacy controls are included? What are the lens, battery, warranty and repair options for this SKU?
- Can I use ordinary phone-based UPI when the glasses are unavailable or unsupported?
