Does the current build look worth playing?
Early Access means you are buying a work in progress. Steam advises buyers to judge the game by its current state and to wait if they are not excited to play it as it exists now. Its guidance puts it plainly: “Customers should be buying their game based on its current state, not on promises of a future that may or may not be realized.” Steam’s Early Access FAQ
For a stealth game, look for gameplay that shows the central loop rather than relying on a feature list or cinematic trailer. Ask yourself:
- What can you do to stay hidden, distract enemies, or get past them?
- How do enemies detect you, and is that behavior understandable from the footage?
- What happens when you are spotted? Can you escape, recover, or must you restart?
- How much of the intended experience is playable now, and does that amount justify the current price for you?
These are questions to guide your assessment, not guarantees about what any particular game contains. Check recent gameplay and the current store page for the specific title.

What does the developer disclose about Early Access?
Read the Early Access section on the game’s store page, not just the marketing description. Steam says its store pages include Early Access information; its developer guidance says the description should explain the reason for Early Access, the game’s current state, planned additions, expected duration, pricing strategy, and how community feedback may contribute. Use the disclosure to identify what is playable now and what remains incomplete. If it is vague about the current state, or if important details appear only in future plans, you have less information on which to base a purchase.

How much weight should you give the roadmap?
Use a roadmap to understand the developer’s intentions, not to calculate the game’s eventual value as though every item were certain. Valve’s guidance warns buyers not to rely on specific future events or additions: the game may not be finished or may not meet expectations. Features, timing, and scope can change.
A sensible decision is to ask whether the current build is worth the price even if planned content arrives late, changes, or never appears. If your interest depends on an unreleased stealth system, mission set, or other promised feature, waiting reduces the risk of paying for a version that does not yet meet your needs.

Are updates and developer communication informative?
Check the game’s recent update posts and developer responses for concrete information about changes, fixes, and feedback. A roadmap describes intentions; update history shows what has been communicated about the game over time.
Steam says it adds a store-page notice when a game has had no update-type event in more than 12 months. That threshold is a prompt to inspect the update record and communication, not proof that development has stopped or an explanation for the gap. Steam’s Early Access FAQ

Does the price make sense for what exists now?
Compare the current price with the playable content, stability, and breadth you can access today—not with the amount of content on a roadmap. Whether that is good value depends on what you want from the game and how comfortable you are with an unfinished experience. If two titles are under consideration, compare their current playable state, disclosure clarity, update communication, and price side by side.
What platform and practical details should you verify?
On the specific game’s current store page, confirm its supported platform, system requirements, controls, and accessibility information. These details vary by title; general Steam Early Access guidance does not establish them for any particular game. Check them before buying, especially if you rely on specific hardware, control options, or accessibility features.
What are the refund terms for your store?
Refund rules depend on where you buy. For Steam purchases, Steam’s published standard offer covers games and software requested within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime. Early Access playtime counts toward that two-hour limit. Steam also says it cannot refund purchases made outside Steam, including third-party CD keys. Read Steam’s refund policy and confirm the terms that apply to your purchase; do not assume Steam’s rules apply to another storefront.
Because playtime in an Early Access build counts toward Steam’s limit, the refund window is not a substitute for deciding whether the game’s current state suits you. Other stores may set different conditions.
