Whenever possible, inspect and test the specific unit in person; a seller’s video is only an initial screen. Then compare the full cost and buyer protections with other available options.
1. Screen the seller and ask for a demonstration
Check the seller’s feedback and reputation, and ask for a video of the actual console powering on. Sony’s used PlayStation buying guide recommends asking sellers to show the ports and buttons working, connect the console to the internet, and test the disc drive if the product has one. The PS5 Pro does not include a disc drive, so a drive test applies only if the seller is including the separately sold accessory.
Use the video to screen the listing, not to certify the console. It cannot show you every aspect of the unit’s condition or establish its ownership history.
2. Inspect and test the console before payment
If you can meet in person, compare the console with the seller’s video and check it before handing over money. Sony’s guide recommends checking for image problems, overheating, and physical damage. Allow enough time to see whether the console stays on while running a game.

- Look over the casing and ports for damage, and check that buttons and connections respond.
- Connect it to a display and confirm the picture is stable.
- Listen for unusual fan noise and watch for unexpected shutdowns or signs of overheating during a game.
- Connect to the internet and confirm the console can reach PlayStation services.
These checks can reveal obvious problems, but they do not guarantee that a used console is free of faults.
3. Verify the model and serial number
Check the identification label on the console and compare its model and serial number with the seller’s documentation. Sony’s model and serial number instructions explain where to find those details. Sony’s manuals index lists multiple PS5 Pro variants, including CFI-7019 and CFI-7119, so check the exact model against documentation for your region rather than identifying it by appearance alone.

Do not buy a console with a serial number that is missing, removed, or appears altered. Sony warns that lost or stolen PlayStation products may be permanently suspended from PlayStation services. An altered, defaced, or removed serial number is also listed among exclusions in Sony’s U.S. limited warranty terms.
4. Confirm account removal and PlayStation access
Ask the seller to deactivate the console and demonstrate that it can connect to PlayStation services. Sony’s used-console guidance advises confirming that the seller has deactivated the device and no longer has access to it. Test service access yourself if possible; a video connection is less conclusive than checking the unit at the handoff.

A successful connection and deactivation check reduce risk, but neither proves the console’s complete ownership history.
5. Check the package and price missing accessories
Sony’s U.S. product listing describes the standard PS5 Pro package as including a console, DualSense controller, 2 TB SSD, horizontal feet, HDMI cable, AC power cord, user manual, and pre-installed ASTRO’S PLAYROOM. The PS5 Pro is all-digital and has no disc drive in the box. Sony sells the disc drive and vertical stand separately. Check the current U.S. listing and the seller’s actual package; contents and availability may differ by region or listing.

Ask the seller to show each item they claim is included. If something is missing, account for the cost of replacing it when comparing the offer. For a separately sold disc drive or stand, confirm the exact accessory and its compatibility using Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guide. That guide says the PS5 Pro stand and disc drive with cover are compatible, while PS5 covers from the CFI-1000 and CFI-2000 model groups and the prior PS5 console base are not.

Request the original proof of purchase and written details of any return window or buyer protection before paying. Sony’s U.S. limited warranty is written for the original purchaser, covers one year from the original purchase in the United States and Canada, and requires proof of purchase for warranty service. Sony also warns that third-party used PlayStation products may not be covered. Do not assume a warranty transfers to you: ask Sony about the specific unit and your region.

Compare the protections you would actually receive from the seller or marketplace. A lower asking price may not compensate for having no practical way to return a faulty console.
7. Compare the whole offer, not just the asking price
There is no single used-price threshold established here for calling a PS5 Pro a bargain. Compare the particular unit and transaction across the factors that affect your risk and total cost:
- Evidence that the console operates, plus its visible condition.
- Seller reputation, return terms, and buyer protection.
- Intact identification, account deactivation, and access to PlayStation services.
- Proof of purchase and the warranty position in your region.
- Whether the controller, cables, feet, and any claimed extras are present.
- The total cost after replacing missing items or buying optional accessories.
Optional M.2 storage is not required to inspect or use the console. If you plan to add it, Sony specifies PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe, Key M, a capacity of 250 GB to 8 TB, supported physical dimensions, effective heat dissipation, and a recommended sequential read speed of at least 5,500 MB/s. Sony cautions that meeting the listed specifications does not guarantee that every drive will work; check its M.2 SSD installation and compatibility guidance before buying one.
