Before buying a refurbished PS5 Pro, find out who refurbished it, get the warranty and return terms in writing, and verify the console’s identity and operation. Ask for a receipt and clear model and serial-number photos, then confirm the included accessories and the full cost of any extras you need.
1. Find out who refurbished the console
“Refurbished” does not, by itself, tell you who worked on the console, what was repaired or replaced, or what testing it passed. Ask whether the unit was refurbished by Sony, a retailer, or a third party. Request the refurbisher’s written description of its work and grading standard, and check the seller’s reputation.
Sony recommends buying through authorized retailers for greater confidence in authenticity, functionality, returns, and warranty coverage. Its used PlayStation buying guide distinguishes certified refurbished products, which include a warranty, from third-party used products, which Sony says are not covered by its warranty. A refurbished label alone does not establish that a listing is Sony-certified. Sony’s refurbished-products page describes a standard one-year limited warranty for its certified refurbished PlayStation products, but does not establish that a certified refurbished PS5 Pro is currently available. Check the live listing for your country rather than assuming it is.
2. Read the warranty and return terms before paying
Ask for the complete terms in writing. Check how long the seller’s warranty lasts, what it covers, who handles claims, how to make a claim, and whether you pay return shipping or a restocking fee. Also confirm the return deadline and whether the console must be returned in its original packaging.

Sony’s US warranty terms say its PS5 warranty lasts one year from the original purchase and applies to the original purchaser in the United States and Canada. Those terms do not establish that the warranty transfers to a secondhand buyer. Do not count on Sony coverage for a third-party refurbished console; rely on the seller’s written policy unless the listing clearly documents applicable coverage. Warranty and return terms vary by country and seller.
3. Verify the console’s identity and history
Before paying, ask for a receipt showing the original purchase date and seller, plus clear photos of the console’s model and serial-number labels. Compare the labels with the listing and inspect them for removal or alteration. Sony advises buyers to check serial numbers and look for broken seals or other signs of tampering.

If buying in person, inspect the case for damage and signs it has been opened. If buying remotely, ask for recent photos rather than relying only on stock images. A missing or damaged label makes it harder to establish the console’s identity and may complicate warranty or support questions.
4. Test the console and its PlayStation service access
Sony’s guide says, “Ask for video proof.” Request a video of the actual console powering on, its ports and buttons, its network connection, and its disc drive if one is installed. If you can inspect it in person, repeat those checks yourself before completing the purchase. Look for physical damage, poor image quality, and signs of overheating during operation.

Confirm the console can connect to the internet and sign in to PlayStation services. Sony warns that a PlayStation product reported lost or stolen may be permanently suspended from those services. If a remote seller cannot demonstrate service access, treat that as an unresolved risk and use a return period that gives you time to test it yourself.
5. Confirm the account handoff
Ask the seller to deactivate the console from their account and confirm they no longer have access to it. Make sure you can set it up and use it with your own account before your return window expires.

6. Check what is included and calculate the real cost
Sony’s US PS5 Pro listing describes a 2 TB all-digital console. The listing includes a DualSense controller, HDMI cable, AC power cord, horizontal feet, and manual; the disc drive and vertical stand are separate purchases. A refurbished bundle may differ, so confirm every included item with the seller rather than assuming it matches a new retail box.
If physical games or movie discs matter to you, verify that a compatible drive is included and works, or add its cost to the offer. Sony identifies the CFI-ZDD1 Disc Drive as compatible with PS5 Pro. It supports 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD discs, and needs internet access to pair with the console during setup. The Sony Disc Drive product page has compatibility and setup details.

Compare offers by their refurbisher and standard, written warranty and return rights, receipt and serial-number condition, demonstrated functionality, included accessories, and total cost after any drive or stand you need. A lower asking price is not necessarily the better deal if the bundle is incomplete or the seller’s protections are unclear.
