To check whether a phone is supported by Google Play, identify its exact model or build number, look it up in Google’s supported-device list, and check Play Protect certification on the handset itself.
What a Google Play Console device listing means
The Play Console Device catalog is a tool for app developers to inspect which devices are compatible with a particular app after the developer has uploaded at least one app bundle. Its entries link retail brands and device identifiers to marketing names. The catalog can include certified and uncertified models, and even certified models may have uncertified variants. How to check whether a phone is supported by Google Play
1. Get the exact model or build number
Ask the seller for the phone’s precise model or build number. If you can inspect it, find the identifier under Settings > About phone and compare it with the seller’s information. Search for that identifier in Google Play’s supported-device list. Match the specific variant where possible: a marketing name alone may not distinguish models that have different support status.
2. Check Play Protect certification on the handset
On the phone, open the Play Store, tap the profile icon, then go to Settings > About. Look for the Play Protect certification status. Google says certified devices have passed Android compatibility testing and are eligible to include Google apps such as the Play Store. Google’s supported-device guidance states: “Only Play Protect certified devices are supported.” Check and fix Play Protect certification status

3. Treat an uncertified status as a warning
Google warns that an uncertified device may be less secure, may not receive Android system or app updates, may have problems with apps or features, and may not back up data securely. An unlocked bootloader, root access, or a modified Android build can cause a device to fail certification checks. Do not assume that installing the Play Store or seeing it open proves the handset is certified; check the status in Play Store settings. Google’s certification guidance
What these checks do not tell you
Google Play support and Play Protect certification address compatibility and certification, not the details of a particular sale. They do not establish that the seller is trustworthy, that the handset is in good physical condition, that it is not locked or reported lost, that it will work on your carrier, or how long it will receive updates. Verify those separately with the seller, manufacturer, carrier, and relevant services before buying.

Do not confuse buyer checks with developer verification
Google’s Play Console device-verification requirement for some new personal developer accounts is a separate process for accessing a developer account. Google says a developer can use any non-rooted physical Android mobile device running Android 10 or later for that verification. It is not a consumer compatibility check, a supported-device listing, or a recommendation to buy a particular phone. Play Console verification requirements
