The deal announcement from February 27, 2026 described plans to maintain both studios, attract and retain creative talent, expand content supply, and combine direct-to-consumer businesses. That establishes that Warner Bros. Discovery publicly named a sequel in its pipeline before the acquisition closed. It does not provide a release date, platforms, developer assignment, story details, budget, or a more recent production update.
What the new ownership could—and cannot yet—mean
Skydance now sits above the company that owns the relevant entertainment and gaming businesses. In principle, a new parent company can influence investment priorities and corporate strategy. However, neither the acquisition closing announcement nor the cited merger plans announce a Hogwarts Legacy 2-specific change. There is no public basis in these sources to say the deal has accelerated, delayed, canceled, or redirected the game.
