The company also reports deployments spanning billions of consent records and more than 10 petabytes of data; those figures illustrate the size of the work it says it is handling, while leaving important questions about outcomes and measurement unanswered.
What Privy announced—and what the numbers mean
In an October 6, 2026 release carried by PRNewswire/UNI, IDfy said its Privy privacy platform had reached more than 50 enterprise DPDP implementations. The release reported that those ongoing deployments extended to 500 million-plus data principals, more than 2 billion consent records, and over 10 petabytes of personal data being discovered and governed.
| Company-reported figure | What the release says it represents | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| 50+ implementations | Enterprise DPDP deployments across multiple sectors | A count of named customers, independently verified deployments, or a standardized definition of “implementation” |
| 500M+ data principals | Data principals covered by ongoing deployments | A verified count of unique people or a population-wide estimate |
| 2B+ consent records | Consent records associated with those deployments | That records are unique, current, valid, or evidence of effective consent |
| Over 10 PB of personal data | Data the company says is being discovered and governed in ongoing deployments | The total amount of personal data held in India or an independently measured volume |
The release does not provide a client list, a sector-by-sector breakdown, an audit, or the calculation method for these totals. Its figures should therefore be read as vendor-reported measures of deployment scale, not independent verification of service quality or results.
The company names banking and financial services, fintech, insurance, retail and e-commerce, telecom, healthcare, real estate, manufacturing, and other digital businesses. That range suggests privacy operations are relevant across different kinds of enterprise, but it does not show how many deployments sit in any one sector.

Why the pattern points to an operating-model challenge
Consent screens are only one visible part of enterprise privacy work. A large organization may need to identify personal data across databases, applications, cloud services, documents, images, archives, spreadsheets, and third-party platforms, then connect that inventory to business purposes, access controls, retention practices, and accountable owners.
That work can cross legal, security, product, technology, customer support, and business teams. A rights request may require locating data across systems and coordinating with processors; a consent change may need to reach the relevant product and records; an incident may require a documented response path. These are operational examples, not evidence that every Privy deployment includes every workflow or faces the same technical conditions.

India’s DPDP timetable matters to interpreting “implementation”
India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and its Rules do not all commence at once. The November 13, 2025 Gazette notifications set a phased schedule. As of October 7, 2026, the provisions scheduled to commence on publication are in force; the one-year phase is scheduled for November 13, 2026, and the 18-month phase for May 13, 2027, absent a later change.

| Instrument | Commencement schedule in the November 13, 2025 Gazette notification |
|---|---|
| DPDP Act, G.S.R. 843(E) | Specified institutional and administrative provisions commenced on publication; selected provisions are scheduled after one year; the main set, including sections 3–17 and other listed sections, is scheduled after 18 months. |
| DPDP Rules, G.S.R. 846(E) | Rules 1, 2, and 17–21 commenced on publication; Rule 4 is scheduled after one year; Rules 3, 5–16, 22, and 23 are scheduled after 18 months. |
These dates describe the notifications published on November 13, 2025; a later amendment could affect the timetable. Organizations can build systems and prepare processes ahead of commencement. A vendor’s implementation count in October 2026 therefore indicates reported preparation and deployment activity, not that the full regime is already in force, or that a regulator has certified the organizations as compliant.
Independent readiness research shows an uneven picture

| EY India finding (2026) | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Participants with moderate or lower awareness of the Act and Rules | Approximately 30% |
| Participants that had undertaken a current-state or gap assessment | 48% |
| Participants that had not initiated implementation across relevant processes and systems | 83% |
EY also reports differences in progress by sector: financial services, consumer/retail/e-commerce, and technology services showed more progress on core tasks than some other sectors. Its report identifies challenges for healthcare and life sciences, including sensitive data spread across fragmented systems and legacy infrastructure. These are the report’s findings and interpretation, not a universal ranking or a profile of Privy customers.
A 2024 DSCI PriView guide cites additional signals: 9% of websites obtained clear and explicit consent, 32% of organizations foresaw technical challenges, and about half had yet to acquire skills for DPDPA implementation. The cited passage provides limited detail about the underlying studies, so these figures are best treated as indications of possible consent, technical, and skills gaps—not precise estimates of current national readiness.

What the announcement reveals—and what it cannot prove
- Privacy work is being treated as an enterprise deployment problem. The announced scale makes the practical burden visible: many records, systems, teams, and data flows may need coordinated governance. The figures do not establish the quality or completeness of that work.
- Preparation is happening before the main phase of obligations takes effect. The legal timetable allows organizations to build capability in advance; a deployment is not the same thing as a finding of compliance.
- Readiness appears uneven. EY’s survey points to gaps in awareness and implementation, alongside reported differences between sectors. A large vendor deployment footprint does not resolve those gaps for the market as a whole.
- Measurement needs definitions. “Implementation,” “live client,” “proof of concept,” and “consultation” are not interchangeable metrics. Privy’s About page separately reports 50+ live enterprise clients, 50+ successful POCs, and 300+ consultations, but does not define how those measures relate to the October 2026 implementation figure.
The available material does not independently establish client outcomes, implementation quality, realized return on investment, or the method behind the aggregate scale claims. IDfy founder and CEO Ashok Hariharan described the company’s privacy investment as a long-term strategic bet; that statement explains the company’s own account of its direction, rather than independently demonstrating a market-wide change.
How enterprises should evaluate a privacy implementation
A deployment label alone is too vague to compare providers or judge readiness. Before buying or extending a privacy platform, an organization can ask for evidence against its own systems, obligations, and operating model.
- Define scope. Ask what “implementation” means: which entities, processes, data stores, users, and modules are live, and what remains out of scope.
- Test data discovery against the estate. Check coverage across legacy and cloud systems, SaaS, endpoints, structured databases, and unstructured files. Ask how the product handles missed records, false matches, and remediation.
- Map workflows, not just features. Validate how the organization will handle notices and consent, rights requests, incidents, processor oversight, and audit evidence, including ownership and escalation paths.
- Review security architecture. Establish what sensitive information the provider processes or stores, how integrations work, and what technical documentation is available for security review.
- Estimate the ongoing work. Clarify integration effort, implementation duration, responsibilities, and who maintains rules, configurations, and process changes over time.
- Ask for verifiable evidence. Request relevant customer references, deployment boundaries, and independently measured outcomes where available. Distinguish those from vendor-reported totals or capability descriptions.
These checks help organizations assess fit; the available information does not support declaring Privy or another platform a winner in a side-by-side comparison.
A practical notice-drafting resource
The DSCI PriView Information Guide describes a free web-based tool for generating customizable privacy-notice templates for digital products and services. It can provide a starting point for drafting, but a template is not a complete compliance program or a replacement for organization-specific legal review.
