Argentina’s construction stocks move with more than building activity. Demand and cement volumes matter, but prices, product mix, energy and freight costs, inflation accounting, currency effects, financing and company-specific ownership risks can all change reported results. Track industry indicators alongside company filings, and separate operating performance from financial results.

What drives construction companies’ results?

Construction demand is a central driver for cement and building-materials businesses. In its 2025 annual filing, Loma Negra linked cement demand to residential construction, broader economic conditions and infrastructure projects. It also identified interruptions, delays or cancellations of public and private work as risks to results.

Demand is only the first link in the chain. A company may sell more cement yet report weaker earnings if realized prices or product mix deteriorate, operating costs rise, or financing and accounting effects weigh on the bottom line. Loma Negra’s 2Q26 filing covers cement, masonry cement and lime, concrete, aggregates and railroad segments; it says the group’s operations are conducted in Argentina and exports are not significant.

Which indicators belong on a demand dashboard?

Use several measures together because they capture different parts of the construction cycle. A national activity indicator, permits, industry dispatches and one company’s own sales volumes are related, but they are not interchangeable.

  • Construction activity: Follow INDEC’s construction activity indicator for a broad measure of activity. It does not directly show how much product an individual issuer sold.
  • Building permits: Permit area can indicate planned building activity, but an authorization is not the same as a completed project or current materials demand. Loma Negra’s 2025 filing reported, attributing the figures to INDEC, that authorized building-permit surface declined 6.2% year over year in December 2025. Verify the original INDEC release before presenting this as an official INDEC figure.
  • Industry cement dispatches: These provide a sector-level volume signal. Loma Negra’s annual filing, reporting industry data, described quarterly comparisons during 2025 as mixed: increases in the first two quarters, a small decline in the third and a small increase in the fourth. The same filing reported an approximately 0.4% year-over-year decline in industry dispatches in 1Q26. Treat these as issuer-reported industry figures, not an independently verified series.
  • Company-reported volumes: Compare an issuer’s dispatches and segment volumes with industry trends. A company can diverge from the market, so sector data alone cannot establish how its own operations performed.
  • Public works: Watch funding, tenders and actual project execution, not just announcements. Loma Negra’s filing identified reduced public-works financing and project delays as risks; an announced project does not by itself establish that funded work will generate materials demand.

Loma Negra’s annual filing also reported a 0.3% decline in formal employment in the sector, attributing that figure to INDEC. As with the permit statistic, check the original INDEC release before quoting it as an official statistical figure.

How can volumes rise while earnings weaken?

Dispatches measure volume, not profitability. Compare them with revenue, cost of sales, gross profit and segment results to see whether additional activity is translating into stronger operating performance. Pricing and product mix affect revenue per unit; energy, freight and other costs affect the expense side. Loma Negra’s 2Q26 statements provide separate segment costs and results for examining those relationships.

Nominal peso results also need context. Inflation accounting and exchange-rate effects can complicate comparisons across periods, while debt, interest and other financial items may widen the gap between operating performance and net profit. Read the relevant accounting disclosures and financial lines rather than treating a headline peso figure as a clean measure of real growth.

Issuer and period Reported result How to interpret it
Loma Negra, 2Q26 Net revenue of AR$238,053 million and net profit of AR$7,043 million for the quarter, according to its 2026 second-quarter results release. Read alongside the release’s cost, gross-profit and finance lines, and the company’s inflation-accounting and exchange-rate disclosures.
Holcim Argentina, first half of 2026 Net sales of AR$270,016 million, an operating loss of AR$44,500 million and a net loss of AR$19,415 million, according to its first-half 2026 release. The release attributed a financial gain partly to the net monetary position. The example shows why a net result is not a direct proxy for construction demand.

These reported figures are in nominal pesos and cover different periods and issuers. They are not a like-for-like company comparison; do not infer relative performance without checking period, accounting basis and inflation restatement.

What company-specific risks can move a stock?

Sector demand does not explain every share-price move. Loma Negra’s 2025 filing warned that uncertainty around a sale procedure could affect ownership and create volatility in its ordinary shares and ADSs. The evidence available here does not establish a later resolution or independently confirm the procedure’s status as of October 2026.

For Loma Negra (NYSE: LOMA; BYMA: LOMA), monitor company and securities filings for developments concerning the sale procedure, control, capital structure and risks affecting its ordinary shares and ADSs. For any construction issuer, also assess its own financing and governance disclosures rather than assuming that a sector-wide recovery removes company-specific risk.

How should you compare construction issuers?

Compare companies on consistent periods and accounting bases. A practical checklist is:

  1. Volumes: Compare cement and related product dispatches or sales, distinguishing company figures from industry totals.
  2. Pricing and mix: Check whether revenue changes reflect higher volumes, realized prices or a different mix of products.
  3. Operating performance: Review segment results, cost of sales and margins, including the effects of energy and freight costs where disclosed.
  4. Financing and currency exposure: Examine debt, interest, exchange differences and monetary-position gains or losses separately from operating results.
  5. Demand sources: Consider exposure to private building, infrastructure and public works, and distinguish funded execution from announcements.
  6. Ownership and trading risks: Check filings for control, capital-structure and governance developments that could affect the specific security.

A practical way to monitor the signals

Keep a dated tracker with the indicator, period covered, publication date, source and whether the figure is an original statistical release or an issuer’s account of industry data. Update broad activity and permit measures when published, then reconcile them with dispatch data and company results as they become available. This helps prevent a quarterly company figure from being compared with a different period or mistaken for an official sector statistic.

For each earnings release, record volumes, revenue, costs, segment profitability and financial items separately. Note the accounting basis and any inflation or exchange-rate qualifications beside the figures. When a share price moves, test sector demand, operating results, macro and financing effects, and company-specific disclosures as separate possible drivers; the indicators described here can organize that analysis, but do not by themselves establish the cause of a particular market move.
