Strays and Frostbites can spawn in Minecraft Ice Caves, alongside the mobs that normally spawn in caves. That roster is confirmed in the Java 26.4 Snapshot 3 and Bedrock Preview 26.60.29 changelogs. Neither changelog names the ordinary cave mobs individually, so a complete Ice Caves roster is not established by those sources.
Which mobs are confirmed in Ice Caves?
Both current official changelogs explicitly name two additions: Strays and Frostbites. The Java changelog says, “In addition to the mobs that normally spawn in caves, Strays and Frostbites can also spawn here.” The Bedrock Preview changelog names the same additions.
The phrase “mobs that normally spawn in caves” is not expanded into a species-by-species list in either changelog. The confirmed answer is therefore Strays and Frostbites, plus the usual cave-spawning mobs; the cited notes do not verify a complete roster or whether the baseline differs between editions.

Check your edition and build before searching for the biome: the cited sources establish it in a Java snapshot and a Bedrock experimental preview, not in a stable release. The official Java Edition 26.4 Snapshot 3 notes were published October 6, 2026; the Bedrock Preview 26.60.29 notes were published September 30, 2026.

Does lighting affect Ice Caves mob spawns?
Lighting matters to hostile mob spawning in caves generally, but the cited Ice Caves changelogs do not give a special light threshold for this biome. Minecraft’s Caves & Cliffs Part II feature overview described a change under which “mobs will now only spawn in complete darkness.” Minecraft’s general mob guide, published September 22, 2023, says hostile mobs spawn at night and in poorly lit areas such as caves. Neither statement supplies an Ice Caves-specific rule or threshold.

In the Java snapshot notes, the biome consists mainly of Packed Ice and Calcite, with icicles, occasional snow patches, and Ice Crystals. It is described as generating under colder Overworld biomes; the Bedrock preview likewise places it beneath low-temperature biomes. These details can help distinguish the setting, but the changelogs do not add further mob names or individual spawn rates.
