Its live blog, published September 28, 2010, records what speakers said and which products they discussed; it is a historical event recap, not evidence that planned launches occurred or that the products remain available today.
What was Maxim Integrated’s editor-analyst day?
Maxim Integrated held the briefing for editors and analysts in Sunnyvale. EDN’s Brian Fuller covered the event live on September 28, 2010. The post’s sequence runs from CEO Tunc Doluca’s opening remarks through presentations on advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), power-line communications, an ambient light sensor, wireless HDMI and battery fuel gauging. It is a reporter’s account of the event, not a complete official agenda. Read EDN’s live coverage.
What did Maxim discuss?
Company strategy and product development
In the opening remarks as reported by EDN, CEO Tunc Doluca said Maxim reinvested 24% of each revenue dollar in R&D, produced an average of one product a day, and had increased patent applications by 50% over the preceding two years. The recap does not define the periods or accounting methods behind those figures, so they should be understood as statements made at the event, not independently verified company-wide measures.
Another speaker, Bart DeCanne, whose role is not specified in the recap, said: “Gone are the days when Maxim was doing small analog jellybean parts,” DeCanne said. The comment framed the event’s broader range of application areas, but the post does not provide a detailed corporate strategy or supporting analysis.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
AMI and G3-PLC smart-grid communications
The AMI discussion concerned communications for smart meters and the electrical grid. EDN’s recap names Maxim’s MAX2992 G3-PLC chipset, describing it as a solution for power-line communications. The event notes report an effective data rate greater than 298 Kbps in the 10–490 kHz range. Those are figures recorded in 2010, not refreshed specifications.
The post also records claims that the chipset would comply globally and gives a planned sampling date. These were statements about compliance and intended timing at the event; the live blog does not establish whether sampling began as planned, whether the product later shipped, or what standards or regions its claim covered.

MAX9635 ambient light sensor
Maxim’s MAX9635 was identified as an ambient light sensor. EDN reported a 22-bit ADC and an operating current of 0.6 μA. Both figures describe the product as presented in 2010; the recap is not an independently updated datasheet and does not establish present-day availability or performance.
Wireless HDMI
A separate presentation covered wireless HDMI, adding video transmission to the event’s range of topics. The recap does not name a specific product, provide performance figures, or document a later release, so it supports only the conclusion that Maxim presented the subject at the briefing.

ModelGauge m3 battery fuel gauging
The battery-management presentation described ModelGauge m3 as combining Maxim’s ModelGauge algorithm with a Coulomb counter. The presenters claimed advantages in learning behavior, power consumption and component count. The post does not supply comparative measurements or a head-to-head test, so these should be read as the presentation’s claimed benefits rather than quantified results.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read the product and performance claims
The event recap is useful for understanding the breadth of topics Maxim chose to present in 2010, but it is not a current purchasing guide. Its product descriptions and numerical figures are historical reports, and planned sampling or compliance statements do not prove later commercial availability or current specifications. For a present-day engineering decision, confirm details in current manufacturer documentation and with a supplier; the EDN post itself does not establish current stock, pricing, compatibility or support.
