Malwarebytes uses it for Trojans that run shellcode to launch malware or download additional malware. If it appears in a scan, quarantine the detected item and review the complete results for other detections.
What does Trojan.Shellcode mean?
Malwarebytes describes Trojan.Shellcode as a generic detection for Trojans that run shellcode on an affected system to launch malware or download more malware. “Shellcode” describes code used in that activity; the alert does not, by itself, identify a particular malware family, campaign, file hash, vulnerability, or infection source. Malwarebytes’ Trojan.Shellcode detection page does not provide those case-specific details.
The label is therefore a useful warning about detected behavior, not a complete diagnosis of what happened on a particular device. Malwarebytes’ general description is not proof that every detection used the same mechanism.
What might have happened on the device?
Scripts or additional malware
For Windows, Malwarebytes says these detections often involve PowerShell or cmd scripts used to download or execute other malware. A user might briefly see command prompt windows, but that observation alone does not establish the cause or confirm this detection.

Possible entry routes
Malwarebytes lists infected email attachments and exploit kits as possible sources. These are examples, not confirmed entry routes for an individual device. The detection name alone cannot tell you how the item arrived.
Other detections in the scan
Malwarebytes says additional detections may appear because the infection may rely on other malware or may have downloaded more. Review the full detection list and quarantine records rather than treating Trojan.Shellcode as the only relevant result.

What to do if Malwarebytes finds Trojan.Shellcode
Home users
Malwarebytes’ home guidance recommends scanning, quarantining detected threats, and restarting if prompted. Follow the prompts shown in your installed version; the detection page does not establish that one scan will remove every related threat.
- Open Malwarebytes and choose Scan to start a Threat Scan.
- When the scan finishes, review the detections and select Quarantine for found threats.
- Reboot the computer if Malwarebytes prompts you to do so.
- After the restart, review the scan results and any available detection or quarantine records for additional items.
Business administrators
For business endpoints, Malwarebytes describes using its Nebula console to run Scan + Quarantine, then reviewing the Detections and Quarantine pages. Those records help administrators assess what was found and quarantined across managed endpoints.

How this label differs from related Malwarebytes detections
Malwarebytes uses several generic Trojan labels, but their names are not interchangeable. Its separate Trojan.PowerShell entry describes a generic detection for malicious PowerShell scripts and Windows executables that create and run them. The separate Trojan.Agent entry describes a generic Trojan label used when a specific family cannot be attributed or there is not enough information to pinpoint one. The shared word “Trojan” does not make those detections synonymous with Trojan.Shellcode.
