Its two USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, Plex Media Server capability and higher listed AI-upscaling frame rate make it most useful for local media, home-theater setups and gaming—not automatically better for someone who only watches streaming apps. “Regular Android TV box” describes a broad category, so features vary by model.
What is different about the SHIELD TV Pro?
The Pro is 2019-generation hardware running Android TV, not a separate television platform. NVIDIA lists Android 11.0 powered by Android TV and Chromecast 4K built in. Its clearest distinctions are the hardware and connections: 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports and Gigabit Ethernet. It also supports AI-enhanced upscaling up to 4K at 60 frames per second.
Those specifications distinguish it from NVIDIA’s standard SHIELD TV. They do not establish that every other Android TV box has less memory, weaker performance or fewer features; that comparison depends on the specific device.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
What do the Pro’s extra ports and memory let you do?
Connect external storage and peripherals
The two USB ports let you attach flash drives or hard drives for additional storage, as well as compatible peripherals. NVIDIA specifically positions the Pro’s USB connections for high-capacity drives and Plex Media Server use. That can suit a household with a local video library or other USB-connected equipment. The standard SHIELD instead lists a microSD slot for expansion.
Run Plex Media Server on the device
NVIDIA identifies Plex Media Server as a Pro use case. This can be useful when you want the SHIELD to serve locally stored media to compatible devices on your network. It is a different job from simply streaming through apps, and the value depends on your library, storage and home network.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Use wired networking
The Pro has Gigabit Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi. A wired connection can be useful in a home-theater location where Ethernet is available, though it does not guarantee faster streaming: internet service, network conditions and the app’s stream all matter.
How should you interpret its 4K, HDR and audio features?
The Pro supports 4K playback for supported codecs, Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10. NVIDIA also lists AI-enhanced upscaling up to 4K at 60 FPS. Playback and upscaling are different: playback decodes compatible 4K material, while upscaling processes lower-resolution video for a 4K display. Upscaling does not turn the original source into native 4K detail.

- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
For audio, NVIDIA lists Dolby Atmos and passthrough support for formats including DTS:X and Dolby TrueHD, along with high-resolution audio playback. Getting the intended picture or sound requires compatible content and app support, a compatible television or display, and—where applicable—a soundbar or receiver that supports the format. A specification on the box alone does not guarantee that an entire signal chain will pass it through.
Does the Pro outperform a regular Android TV box?
There is no single standardized “regular Android TV box” to compare against, and the NVIDIA specifications compare the Pro with NVIDIA’s own standard SHIELD TV—not every competing player. Without a named alternative and comparable testing, a universal speed or quality ranking would be misleading.

NVIDIA said at the Pro’s October 28, 2019 launch that its Tegra X1+ offered “up to 25 percent more performance” than its predecessor. That is the manufacturer’s launch claim, not an independent benchmark against current Android TV boxes. The same announcement listed a US launch price of $199; it is historical, not a current price. NVIDIA’s 2019 launch announcement also gave then-current Google Play catalog figures, which should not be treated as today’s counts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should choose the SHIELD TV Pro?
It is a stronger fit if you want
- USB-attached storage for a local media collection.
- Plex Media Server use on the player.
- Two USB ports for storage or compatible peripherals.
- The higher memory and storage figures listed for the Pro compared with the standard SHIELD.
- AI upscaling with NVIDIA’s listed ceiling of 4K at 60 FPS.
- Wired Gigabit Ethernet or the SHIELD’s gaming capabilities alongside streaming.
A simpler streaming box may be enough if you
- Mostly watch subscription apps and do not expect to attach storage or peripherals.
- Do not need the Pro’s additional RAM or internal storage.
- Are choosing based mainly on price and have not confirmed that you need its specific video, audio or networking features.
Before deciding, check the exact alternative’s app support, video and audio formats, ports, storage options, network connections and price in your region. NVIDIA’s specifications establish what its two SHIELD models list; they cannot settle value against an unnamed competitor.

What about availability and the age of the hardware?
The currently listed product specifications describe the Tegra X1+ Pro running Android 11.0, and NVIDIA’s launch announcement dates the model to October 28, 2019. A recent TechRadar availability report says the standard SHIELD TV has been discontinued while the Pro remains available. That is outlet reporting, not an NVIDIA availability notice; check local retailers for current stock and price. NVIDIA says SHIELD Experience upgrades are delivered directly from NVIDIA, but the cited specifications do not establish how long future software support will continue.
