What is s.yimg.com?
s.yimg.com is a hostname under yimg.com. A request to it may fetch a static resource used by a Yahoo page or service. A 2022 explanation by Candid.Technology describes it as part of Yahoo’s content delivery network (CDN), but that is a secondary source rather than current official Yahoo support guidance. Why does Yahoo use a separate domain for static files?
A website can serve its main application from one host and its static components from another. Yahoo Developer Network’s performance guidance uses yimg.com as an example of this arrangement. It also explains that a CDN distributes web content across servers and typically selects a server based on network proximity, helping deliver content efficiently. Is s.yimg.com safe, or is it malware?
Seeing s.yimg.com in a browser message or network log, by itself, does not show that your device is infected. The hostname has a documented normal role in serving static content for Yahoo-related pages. That does not guarantee that every resource or request using the domain is safe; the sources cited here do not provide a current security assessment of every subdomain, file, or connection.

Why does my browser say “waiting for s.yimg.com”?
The message means the browser is waiting for a response from that host while loading a page resource. It does not, on its own, identify the cause. The problem might be limited to a particular page, browser, network, or local filtering setting; the available sources do not establish a single cause or guaranteed fix.

- Check whether it affects one Yahoo page or several. Reload the page and try another Yahoo page or service. If only one page is affected, the issue may be specific to that page or its resources.
- Try another browser. If the same page works elsewhere, review the affected browser’s stored data and extensions or filtering settings.
- Try another network, if available. If the page works on a different connection, your usual network or its filtering may be involved. A 2022 Candid.Technology article lists possible ISP blocking as one troubleshooting lead, not a confirmed diagnosis. Candid.Technology: What is YIMG? Everything you need to know
- Review local filtering. Check whether a firewall, ad blocker, or other content-filtering rule is blocking the request. Change a rule only if you understand its effect and trust the page and resource involved.
- Consider cached browser data or DNS settings. Candid.Technology’s 2022 article suggests these as possible checks. Clearing browser data can remove stored site information, while changing DNS settings affects how your device looks up hostnames; neither is a universal fix. Avoid switching DNS providers without a reason and understanding the consequences. Candid.Technology: What is YIMG? Everything you need to know
