Blizzard has also announced Legacy progression for leveling and alternate characters, revised itemization, and four rulesets. The full post-60 advancement loop and release cadence have not yet been specified in the official material available as of October 4, 2026.
What is World of Warcraft: Forever?
Forever is a new, persistent World of Warcraft experience that Blizzard says will sit alongside modern WoW and Classic WoW. Its starting point is the original continents and the familiar climb to level 60, but Blizzard describes it as an experience that will continue with new stories, activities, and updates shaped by player feedback.
That makes Forever different from simply replaying a fixed version of old WoW: the announcement points to ongoing additions, including new regions, dungeons, and raids. It does not, however, provide a complete schedule for those releases.
How does progression work?
Levels 1–60 remain the foundation
Blizzard presents the leveling journey through level 60 as a central part of Forever, emphasizing the journey as well as the destination. The original continents are the setting for that progression.

Legacy is aimed at leveling and alternate characters
Legacy progression is intended for players who enjoy leveling and running alternate characters, or alts. Blizzard has not specified the exact Legacy reward mechanics in the official material available so far, so it is not possible to say how excess experience is handled or what particular rewards players will earn.
More content is planned beyond the initial journey
Blizzard says progression will continue through new stories, experiences, and updates. Its official panel recap also refers to new regions, dungeons, and raids, but does not establish when they will arrive or how often content will be added.

Itemization is being revised
Blizzard says Forever will retain familiar Classic stats while reworking some and adding others. Its stated aim is to make gear choices more varied according to role, activity, and playstyle. The full stat list, item levels, and how gear progression will work over time have not been detailed in the official material cited here.
What are rulesets, and how do they shape the world?
Instead of the traditional realm-selection screen, Blizzard says players will choose among four rulesets: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, and Hardcore. Each ruleset is described as its own distinct space. The announcement does not fully explain population, grouping, or how players might interact across rulesets, so those details should not be assumed.
