Snapdragon X Elite is Qualcomm’s processor platform for Windows laptops, not the name of one laptop or one fixed level of performance. Each X Elite system-on-chip combines a 12-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU, integrated Adreno GPU and Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU). Qualcomm lists four variants; their clock specifications differ, so the exact chip and the laptop design both matter.
What does Snapdragon X Elite mean in a laptop?
It means the laptop uses a chip from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite family. A system-on-chip (SoC) brings major computing components together on one chip. Qualcomm describes X Elite as a 4 nm SoC with a 64-bit Oryon CPU, an integrated Adreno GPU and a Hexagon NPU. The platform is designed for Windows laptops; it is not itself a complete computer or a stand-alone upgrade part.
The processor supplies core computing capabilities, but the laptop maker chooses the rest of the system. Memory, storage, screen, ports, cooling, battery and other features depend on the particular model and configuration. Qualcomm cautions that device features vary by manufacturer and that battery life varies with the device, settings, usage and other factors.
What are the Snapdragon X Elite variants?
Qualcomm’s product brief lists four X Elite part numbers. All four have 12 CPU cores, 42 MB cache and a 45 TOPS NPU rating, but their stated CPU boost frequencies differ. The figures below are the specifications Qualcomm lists, not a guarantee of sustained operating speed in every laptop.

| Variant | CPU cores | Maximum dual-core boost | Maximum multithread frequency | Cache | NPU |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| X1E-00-1DE | 12 | Up to 4.3 GHz | Up to 3.8 GHz | 42 MB | 45 TOPS |
| X1E-84-100 | 12 | Up to 4.2 GHz | Up to 3.8 GHz | 42 MB | 45 TOPS |
| X1E-80-100 | 12 | Up to 4.0 GHz | Up to 3.4 GHz | 42 MB | 45 TOPS |
| X1E-78-100 | 12 | Not listed | Up to 3.4 GHz | 42 MB | 45 TOPS |
These are variant-level specifications from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite product page and Snapdragon X Elite Product Brief. A higher listed boost frequency alone does not establish how two complete laptops will compare: cooling, power settings and the rest of each design affect actual behavior.
What do the CPU, GPU and NPU do?
CPU: general computing
The Oryon CPU handles the laptop’s general-purpose computing work, including running the operating system and applications. X Elite’s four listed variants each have 12 CPU cores; their frequency specifications are not identical.

GPU: graphics and visual workloads
The integrated Adreno GPU handles graphics processing without being a separate, user-replaceable graphics card. Qualcomm’s brief indicates that GPU performance differs among X Elite variants. The chip specification does not, by itself, tell you how a particular laptop will perform in games or creative applications.
NPU: certain AI workloads
An NPU is a processor designed to accelerate neural-network and AI tasks. Qualcomm rates the X Elite NPU at 45 TOPS, a throughput capability rather than a direct measure of how fast every AI application will run. The benefit depends on whether software supports the NPU and how that software uses it.

Qualcomm’s May 2024 application overview named DaVinci Resolve, djay Pro, CapCut, Cephable and Luminar Neo as examples involving Arm compatibility and/or NPU acceleration. Those are dated examples, not a guarantee that every version supports every feature on every X Elite laptop. Qualcomm’s reported application comparisons are vendor claims, not independent benchmark results; see its application overview for context.
How does Snapdragon X Elite relate to Copilot+ PCs?
Copilot+ PC is a computer category, while Snapdragon X Elite is a processor family. Qualcomm’s June 2024 explainer described the Copilot+ PC requirements at that time as an NPU rated at 40 TOPS, 16 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. The memory and storage requirements apply to the computer, not to the processor itself. Because those figures come from a 2024 explanation, check Microsoft’s current requirements before relying on them to determine eligibility.
