Satellite Key Sharing (SKS) is a method of distributing access information for encrypted subscription-TV content through satellite, so users can share the access rights associated with a smart card without authorization. It is not ordinary satellite signal reception.
What does satellite key sharing mean?
The Organization of American States (OAS) manual calls SKS “Data Sharing via Satellite” and describes it as a fraud technique involving the shared rights of a smart card. In this context, the smart card is associated with access to encrypted subscription television; SKS distributes the shared key information through satellite rather than providing an authorized subscription.
The term therefore refers to unauthorized sharing of subscription-TV access information—not to receiving free-to-air satellite broadcasts or to satellite television itself. How is SKS different from IKS?

Is satellite key sharing legal?
The OAS manual characterizes the SKS use described above as fraud and unauthorized access. That characterization does not establish a universal legal rule or penalty: consequences depend on applicable local law, and the cited material does not specify jurisdiction-wide penalties.
