dbForge is Devart’s family of database development and administration software—not a single universal tool. Depending on the product, database platform and edition, it can help write SQL, compare and synchronize database changes, manage data, document schemas and perform administrative work.

What does dbForge include?

Devart offers dbForge as a collection of products, including database Studios, standalone utilities and bundles. The catalog covers SQL Server, MySQL and MariaDB, Oracle, and PostgreSQL, but the available tools and features differ across those platforms. Devart’s dbForge catalog and database solutions overview describe the product family.

Some products are focused on a specific task, such as comparing schemas. Others provide a broader development environment with multiple database workflows. dbForge Edge, for example, brings together capabilities for several database systems; its listed functions and coverage still depend on the particular feature and product.

Which database tasks can dbForge help with?

Writing, reviewing and debugging SQL

Applicable dbForge products provide SQL editing and formatting, code completion, refactoring, code analysis and stored-procedure debugging. Some also let users build queries visually. These tools are intended to support development work inside the relevant database environment; the exact features vary by product.

Comparing and deploying schema changes

Schema comparison tools identify differences between database structures and can generate synchronization scripts so a developer or administrator can review and apply selected changes. Comparison sources vary by tool. For example, Devart says dbForge Schema Compare for SQL Server can compare live databases, native backups, snapshots, script folders, Azure SQL objects, SQL Server on Linux and source-control revisions.

This can help when reviewing changes between development, test and production environments. A generated script is an aid to controlled deployment, not a substitute for reviewing the intended changes and checking that the target environment is appropriate.

Comparing, editing and moving data

Depending on the platform and tool, dbForge can compare table data, show differences, synchronize selected changes, edit data, copy databases, and import or export data. These functions can support migrations, environment refreshes and investigation of data discrepancies. Consult the feature list for the exact product before relying on a particular operation.

Designing and documenting databases

Some products include database diagrams, reverse engineering and database documentation generation. These features can help teams understand an existing schema or communicate its structure, but their presence is not universal across the dbForge lineup.

Administration and maintenance

SQL Server Studio materials list capabilities such as managing users and permissions, backing up and restoring databases, copying databases, monitoring activity or performance, and maintaining indexes. Those are examples for the relevant SQL Server products—not a guarantee that every dbForge tool or supported platform offers the same administration features. See Devart’s SQL Server Studio feature information and getting-started documentation.

Testing, source control and automation

Applicable products also list workflow features such as source control, unit testing, test-data generation and automation. If these are central to your workflow, confirm that the specific product supports the required integration and automation method rather than assuming every Studio includes them.

Can dbForge compare and synchronize databases?

Yes. Comparison and synchronization are prominent use cases in the product family. Depending on the selected utility, you can compare schema objects or table data, inspect the differences, generate a synchronization script and apply chosen changes. Devart’s comparison tools overview describes these workflows across its products.

Choose the comparison tool for the database platform and comparison type you need. Schema comparison concerns database structure; data comparison concerns records in tables. The products may support different source types and deployment workflows, so check the relevant feature page before planning a migration or release.

How should you choose a dbForge product?

  1. Identify the database platform. Start with SQL Server, MySQL or MariaDB, Oracle, or PostgreSQL, then check the catalog for that platform’s product lineup.
  2. Define the main task. Decide whether you need SQL development, schema or data comparison, administration, documentation, test-data generation, or several of these in one environment.
  3. Choose a focused utility or broader environment. A standalone tool may suit a specific recurring job; a Studio or bundle may fit a workflow that spans development and administration.
  4. Check workflow requirements. Verify support for automation, source control, DevOps integration, scheduling or command-line use if you need them.
  5. Verify compatibility and packaging. Check the current supported database versions, operating system, edition, included features, and licensing or trial terms on the relevant product page. These details can change.

What to verify before relying on a feature

  • The exact dbForge product and edition that includes it.
  • Whether your database platform and version are supported.
  • Which source and target types the workflow accepts, especially for comparisons.
  • Whether the operation generates a script for review or applies changes directly.
  • Whether your operating system and required integrations are supported.

Devart’s product pages are vendor descriptions of capabilities, not independent performance tests. They do not establish comparative productivity, adoption or performance outcomes.
