ContainerCon began in 2015 as a Linux Foundation event for container developers and Linux-kernel contributors. Since 2017, it has appeared as a container-focused program within the broader Open Source Summit ecosystem in several editions—not necessarily as a separate conference or a track in every year’s agenda. The current 2026 North America page lists broader Cloud & Orchestration and Packages, Images, & Containers tracks, but does not show a standalone ContainerCon track.

What is ContainerCon?

ContainerCon is a Linux Foundation event program focused on the technologies and practices used to build, run, secure and operate containerized workloads. It launched in 2015 to bring Linux-container developers and contributors together with the Linux kernel developer community. Its first North American edition was co-located with LinuxCon + CloudOpen in Seattle, August 17–19, 2015. Linux Foundation’s 2015 announcement

The official description frames the program around learning why and how teams adopt containerization to improve automation, portability and efficiency. ContainerCon’s role has varied by edition: it has been presented as a named microconference within a larger event rather than as a wholly independent conference brand.

Is ContainerCon part of Open Source Summit?

In November 2016, the Linux Foundation announced that LinuxCon, CloudOpen and ContainerCon would combine under the Open Source Summit umbrella for 2017. Linux Foundation’s 2016 announcement Since then, ContainerCon has appeared among the summit’s microconferences in some editions.

For example, Open Source Summit North America 2024 included ContainerCon among 16 microconferences, while Open Source Summit Europe listed it among 17. Those are edition-specific program details, not a guarantee that every summit includes a ContainerCon-branded track.

What topics are covered at ContainerCon?

The official topic list spans the container lifecycle, from developing and packaging an application to operating it in production. Individual editions may emphasize different areas; the list does not mean every subject appears at every event.

  • Container runtimes, management and orchestration
  • Container images, registries and software supply-chain workflows
  • CI/CD, configuration management, automation and GitOps
  • Observability, including metrics, logging, tracing and service mesh
  • Security and authentication
  • Storage and databases
  • APIs, SDKs, frameworks and libraries
  • Migration and refactoring
  • Remote and cloud-based developer environments
  • Reproducible builds and environments
  • Debugging

When comparing sessions or editions, useful questions include how deeply the program treats runtimes and orchestration, image and supply-chain workflows, operations and observability, security and identity, stateful workloads, and migration or developer experience.

Who should attend ContainerCon?

The program is relevant to developers, platform and infrastructure engineers, operators, maintainers, architects, security practitioners and technology vendors working with containerized software. Its historical focus on both container users and open-source and Linux-kernel contributors makes it pertinent to people building container platforms as well as those deploying and maintaining workloads on them.

The 2016 Europe program illustrates the breadth possible at a co-located event: it described more than 180 sessions across LinuxCon + ContainerCon, covering containers, networking, security, cloud applications and Linux-kernel subjects. That figure applies to that 2016 program, not to every edition.

Is ContainerCon still running in 2026?

The 2026 Open Source Summit North America page lists Cloud & Orchestration and Packages, Images, & Containers tracks, but does not list ContainerCon as a standalone track. 2026 Open Source Summit North America program That establishes what the current page shows; it does not establish that ContainerCon has permanently ended or that no container-focused sessions are offered. Check the specific edition’s current agenda for the program structure and sessions.

ContainerCon has appeared in several recent historical programs: the Linux Foundation archive lists Austin (June 21–24) and Dublin (September 13–16) editions in 2022, both with virtual participation; the 2024 North America and Europe summit programs also listed it as a microconference. These past appearances do not confirm availability in a future edition.

How do I submit a ContainerCon talk?

Talk submission availability and instructions depend on the specific Open Source Summit edition and its current call for proposals. Because the 2026 North America page does not show a standalone ContainerCon track, do not assume there is a separate ContainerCon submission category. Check the relevant summit’s official program and speaker-submission information for open calls and the appropriate track.
