For a first playthrough, release order is the clearest route; Origins is a prequel that takes place earlier in Batman’s career.
What is Batman: Arkham?
Batman: Arkham is DC’s action-adventure video game franchise. Its best-known story follows Batman through a series of threats in and around Gotham City, beginning with Batman: Arkham Asylum in 2009 and reaching its conclusion in Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015. Warner Bros. groups Asylum, City, and Knight as Rocksteady’s three-game story arc; Origins is a separate prequel developed by WB Games Montréal. Warner Bros. Games’ franchise overview

The Arkham games are distinct from LEGO Batman games. Their connection to a LEGO set cannot be assumed from the franchise name alone: without the set’s number or product listing, it is not possible to identify which game, if any, that set represents.

If you prefer fictional chronology, start with Origins, which DC places several years before Asylum and City. Then play Asylum, City, and Knight. The trade-off is simple: chronology puts Batman’s earlier career first, while release order preserves the series’ original progression. DC’s description of Arkham Origins

The physical Switch edition does not store all three games on its cartridge. Arkham Asylum is on the cartridge; Arkham City and Arkham Knight require an internet connection to download and install. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does Batman: Arkham relate to a LEGO set?
The Arkham series and LEGO Batman are separate properties. The LEGO Group’s August 19, 2025 announcement concerns LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, a video game drawing on Batman’s history across films, television, comics, and games and using LEGO humor. That announcement does not identify a particular LEGO building set as based on the Arkham games. The LEGO Group announcement
To check whether a specific building set depicts an Arkham game character or scene, use its set number or official product page. A Batman minifigure or Gotham setting alone is not enough to establish a connection to this video game series.
