AT&T Home Internet is a U.S. residential service offered mainly through two technologies: wired AT&T Fiber and 5G-based fixed-wireless AT&T Internet Air. Fiber advertises speeds up to 5 GIG where available; AT&T lists typical Internet Air downloads of 90–300 Mbps and uploads of 8–30 Mbps. Advertised offers reviewed on October 5, 2026, start at $35 per month for qualifying new Fiber customers in select markets and $55 per month for Internet Air, before applicable taxes and subject to terms. Your address determines which service and price you can actually order.
What is AT&T Home Internet?
AT&T Home Internet is not one uniform connection. The two principal options are fiber-optic service, which carries data over a wired fiber network, and Internet Air, which delivers fixed wireless service over AT&T’s 5G network. The technology offered at your address affects expected speeds, performance characteristics, setup and availability.
| Service | How it connects | Published speed information | Price evidence reviewed October 5, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| AT&T Fiber | Fiber-optic cable | Advertised up to 5 GIG where available. AT&T says the maximum single-device wired speed for its 5-GIG plan is 4.7 Gbps. | Examples include a $35/month 300 Mbps offer for new customers in select markets after qualifying discounts, and $50/month for 1 GIG for the first year for eligible new customers. |
| AT&T Internet Air | Fixed wireless over AT&T 5G | AT&T lists typical downloads of 90–300 Mbps and uploads of 8–30 Mbps. Its reviewed label for one taxation geography lists typical latency of 30–65 ms. | Starts at $55/month, plus taxes and fees, with AutoPay and paperless billing required. |
These are provider-published figures and offers, not a promise of the speed or bill every household will receive. Availability, plan selection and promotional eligibility are address-specific.
How fast is AT&T Home Internet?
AT&T Fiber
AT&T advertises Fiber plans up to 5 GIG where available. The claim is based on a wired connection; AT&T states that the maximum single-device wired speed for the 5-GIG plan is 4.7 Gbps. Wi-Fi performance, the connected device, network setup and other factors can make a customer’s result different from a wired plan claim. AT&T cautions that actual speeds may vary. See AT&T Fiber and its internet plans for current plan information.

AT&T Internet Air
AT&T reports typical Internet Air downloads of 90–300 Mbps and uploads of 8–30 Mbps. Its plan page says those ranges are based on internal speed tests: approximately 75% of tested customers received speeds in the range or higher, while 25% received lower speeds. These are AT&T disclosures, not independent testing, and they do not guarantee a result at a particular home. A reviewed Internet Air Broadband Facts label for taxation geography 391013000 lists typical latency of 30–65 ms; do not assume that label’s tax or fee details apply to other locations. AT&T says performance depends on the customer’s device and the network technology available at the service address. Consult the Internet Air page and the Internet Air Broadband Facts label.
How to judge whether the speed fits
Start with the address-specific Broadband Facts label rather than treating a maximum advertised speed as a household guarantee. Compare typical download and upload speeds, and consider latency if you use applications sensitive to delay. Upload capacity may matter for frequent large file transfers or sending high-resolution video. Also consider how many people and devices will be active at once; the plan figure alone does not describe Wi-Fi coverage or every device’s performance.

If you already have AT&T service and want to check performance, run a test over a wired connection when possible, then compare the result with the relevant plan disclosures. A wired test helps separate the internet connection from Wi-Fi limitations. A compatible Ethernet cable is optional for that purpose; it does not raise the speed delivered by the service.
How good is AT&T Home Internet?
The available evidence supports comparing the two technologies and their disclosed performance, but it does not establish a universal reliability rate or independent customer-satisfaction score for AT&T home internet users. AT&T describes Fiber as reliable and markets Internet Air as fast and reliable; those are the provider’s claims, not independent measurements.

Fiber is a wired option and reaches the higher advertised tier where it is available. Internet Air can be an alternative where Fiber is not offered, but its wireless performance depends on the signal and network conditions at the service location. AT&T says it may temporarily slow Internet Air data speeds when the network is busy. That congestion disclosure matters even though Internet Air is promoted with unlimited data and no overage fees: unlimited data does not mean speeds are guaranteed to remain unchanged at all times. Fiber plans are described by AT&T as including unlimited data with no data caps.
- Check which technology is orderable at your address before comparing plans.
- Use the address- and plan-specific label to compare typical speeds, latency, price and fees.
- Consider whether the stated upload range, latency and wireless congestion terms suit your household’s use.
Where is AT&T Home Internet available?
Availability is determined at the service address. Enter the exact address in AT&T’s Fiber availability check or Internet Air eligibility check. AT&T says the Internet Air check verifies whether the location can receive suitable signal strength. A state service list, regional coverage map or nearby customer’s connection cannot confirm that a specific home can place an order.

How much does AT&T Home Internet cost?
As of October 5, 2026, AT&T’s reviewed public pages showed conditional offers rather than one universal price. The figures below are examples; the price displayed during an address-specific order and the plan’s Broadband Facts label are the better basis for estimating your bill.
| Service or offer | Advertised price | Conditions and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Fiber 300 Mbps | $35/month | New customers in select markets after discounts with eligible AutoPay and paperless billing. Availability and offer terms vary. |
| Fiber 1 GIG | $50/month for the first year | New customers and other offer conditions apply; the introductory term is one year. |
| Internet Air | Starting at $55/month, plus taxes and fees | AutoPay and paperless billing required; availability and performance vary by location. |
AT&T’s Broadband Facts explanation says the label’s monthly price excludes offers and government taxes, while plan-specific fees and charges are itemized. Open the label for the exact plan and service address before comparing total costs. The reviewed Internet Air label applies to taxation geography 391013000 and lists a $200 non-return gateway fee, a $0 early termination fee and taxes that vary by location; those fee details should not be generalized to every address. Can eligible households get a lower price?
Access from AT&T may provide lower-cost service to eligible households. One possible eligibility route is participation in a qualifying government program or household income below 200% of the federal poverty guideline. Available technology, price and speed depend on the address, and an application is required. Check the current terms at Access from AT&T.
How installation and setup work
Fiber installation
Fiber installation may require a technician, including for some existing AT&T internet customers. AT&T says installation typically takes four to six hours, though the actual process varies. Confirm the appointment and installation details for your order on the Fiber page.
Internet Air setup
Internet Air comes with an All-Fi Hub and $0 self-setup. The customer plugs in the equipment and follows setup in AT&T’s Smart Home Manager app. The address must qualify for suitable signal strength, and wireless conditions can affect service performance. Details are on the Internet Air page.
How to choose between Fiber and Internet Air
- Check your address. Confirm which service and specific plans AT&T will let you order; do not infer eligibility from nearby coverage.
- Compare disclosed performance. Review typical rather than peak speeds, including upload speed and latency where listed.
- Compare the real bill. Check the current checkout amount, promotion duration, billing requirements, taxes and plan-specific fees in the applicable Broadband Facts label.
- Match the terms to your use. Consider Fiber’s wired connection or Internet Air’s wireless signal and congestion disclosure, along with setup requirements.
There is no universal winner: the best fit depends first on what AT&T can provide at your address, then on the performance, terms and price that suit your household.
